Each day it gets closer to that special day when each one of us gets to climb into the boat, [and fish from it on water instead of just in the garage] and put all those new rods, reels, line, sinkers, lures to good use. This is the day, the day everybody dreams of, the day we finally get to release all that pressure inside us thats been building up ALL winter. This is the day dreams come true. This is, drum role please, THE OPENER! Where will you be celebrating this special day? Where will your dreams unfold, come true, be a reality? Where have you chosen to spend one of the most cheerished days in a fisherman”s heart? Its getting closer. Lets start letting alittle of that pressure out. Lets let some of those dreams seem closer. Lets start TALKIN FISHIN !!!

    For Pete’s sake Bill!

When I read the subject line…I thought you were getting married!

I’m really hoping my opener will be this Thursday chasing fork tails out of Everts. If all the snow flakes are aligned we’ll have a good ol’ fishing report up on Friday!

I’ve got it bad…I had a dream last night that Dave Scott was trying to steal my Sonny’s stink bait because I was skunking him.

Which is worse? Dreaming about stink bait or dreaming about Dave….I think one of us should be concerned!

The FW is concerned because I woke her up by yelling “FISH ON! at four am this morning. The hook came out in case anyone was wondering.

for me, open water season starts on Saturday on Pool 4!

For the ‘real’ opener(s), I’ll be hitting the Croix on the 28th and then will be on Wissota for the WI inland opener!

Pulled the cover off the boat last night, hooked up the batteries, checked the rods, wiped down the boat, and put on my new lettering I got from Blue (Blue: they look SWEET!).

    I’m pumped…

I’m hoping that special day is Friday March, 16th because that is the special day that the closed to all fishing tailwater areas reopen for fishing in pools 12, 13 & 14. Hopefully the channel will have opened up by then as well as one of the boat landings here in Dubuque because I am planning on being out there. I’m getting ready. I have to wire my truck for my tailer lights yet but that won’t take me long and I have a few small things to take care of with the boat but them I will be ready.

Just this morning I was dreaming of a mid-June morning around 4:30 am. Being the first one at the boat ramp and heading to one of my favorite early morning spots to catch greenies. It is a beautiful morning with light breezes and temps in the high 60’s and the walleye are on a feeding frenzy. Then reality set in. On my way to work I glanced at the frozen river channel wondering if it would be open in less than 2 weeks. As far as I can remember back I have been able to get my boat in by mid-March but I also know that there is thick ice yet on the channel. I know that a warming trend is on the way which should cause the river to rise and break the ice out but if it gets too-warm too-fast then the river will shoot up too-fast and the high water will keep boats off of the water until the water level recedes. I’m praying for a nice and slow warming trend so the river stays within it’s banks.

Nope, no good lookin females with a big gut and scales [walleyes] have proposed yet.

Can’t decide between the lakes around Chisago area or hit rivers close to home where there won’t be as much pressure and traffic on the water.

    Thanks, Bill

Nope, you can, once it gets here, fish in the boat on water. Much more fun. Or if you can’t wait that long you can fish for crappies and gills on your favorite lake as soon as the ice goes out. Have to make sure everything is working ok on the boat before the opener too is the excuse you give the wife. And if you can’t wait til then theres always pool 4 at Red Wing. Kind of like cheating before the lake opener but we all love it. Opener is 365 days a year there.
    Thanks, Bill
