In mid-January I bought a new 1.8 Eskimo Mako auger. I returned it as defective just a week ago. It was a complete lemon, and Ardisam’s customer service was pathetic. See the Outdoor Gear forum for the details.

I would strongly advise spending a few extra $$$ if possible and getting a higher-end model. Had I done so in January I would have saved myself a lot of headaches.

My brother in law has an Eskimo and it seems to be a pretty sweet auger. It got thru the ice without a problem and was pretty quick about it as well. I am a StrikeMaster owner and I would have to say I was pretty impressed with the Eskimo. It was it’s first time out on the ice and did not give him any problem. As far as dependabilitie goes I do not know. But no matter what you buy whether it be Jiffy, StrikeMaster or Eskimo you can always come across a lemon as some would put it.

I seem to have another opinion, Ive had several different kinds, the Jiffy lightning is the most bang for your buck, I found mine this year at gander for 221.00. the eskimo I have is a barracuda, Im in the process now converting my 8 in to a 10,I dont know for a fact the motor will pull a bigger auger or not, every eskimo auger sold this year at scheels in IC was returned if that tells you anything.

I just got a Eskimo 9″ 2 HP Mako, and I love it so far. Starts on the 2nd pull, and cuts like a beauty. I have used Jiffy’s before, nothing wrong with them either. Have heard good things about Strikemaster too. I don’t think you can go wrong for $200. Saves the back !!!

My shoulders won’t take a hand auger. Converted it to use a cordless drill. Spent the extra cash on a new drill. Used it this summer to drill post holes for deck.

There’s a video on the auger adapter. http://www.yoproducts.com

Thanks for all the input, I would prefer a strikemaster but will consider the eskimo. Does seem to be a few problems with it though. Thanks again!
