This might seem like a stupid question, but is there any reason why a guy can’t run a long shaft motor on a short transom?

    Thanks,

Other than running your lower unit into everything in shallow water.. The lower unit will also drag more in the water and slow you down some, and the water hitting th mid section of the lower unit can sometimes come shooting out of the water.

Other than that, I dont see why not? Its not that much work to build up the transom 5″ on most boats so it will take the LS motor.

In addition to what Dave said, the boat will “plow” the water. You will never be able to get it to trim out properly. Performance will always lack. Makes for a wet, rough ride.

Ok in a pinch, not something you want for the long term.

    Thanks guys,

That’s exactly what I wanted to know. I’m in the market for a motor and I keep seeing what I want in a long shaft.

I’m looking for a motor to use on the back of one of Everts Resorts 15′ rental boats.

If anyone out there has a 7-25 horse short shaft they would like to sell, I’m interested. I’m looking to spend under $500.

    Thanks,
    Scott
