Not to burst anyone’s bubble, that is a good idea Blue.
Smokey grills in a parking lot and everyone showing pictures or catch sounds like a blast!

I’m going to check it out tonight..But theres only a few people that are coming and it is there choice. I personally would be out ice fishing anyway..If its really bad, I’ll consider it. I can’t picture 12″ of ice melting over the next 2 days of 40 degree temps though

I couldn’t either until a stop on my way home last night and the word from some friends who were finding the same thing

I’m not sure the weather hurt the ice as much as a combination of weather and the river rising 3 feet over night and still coming up

Cade-Beleive me, 12″ of ice CAN disappear in a matter of days. How do I know? I just witnessed this myself. A few days ago the dam at Tremp was solid ice from shore to shore. Today, there is only a tiny ice shelf in front of the landing Other than that, it is wide open as far down as I can see. Like Bret mentioned, the combination of warm days and nights, sun, and the rapid rise of the river and you now have prime conditions to get rid of a lot of ice in no time

I went to the backwaters today near Wabasha. 2 places that had 50 people each on Tuesday were not able to be fished today. There was 10 ft. of open water between the shore and the ice. Tuesday there was no problem. It can change in a hurry!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but…….
22 is the same deal right now…yesterday somebody put a ladder with plywood on it to get out…15 people on the ice.
Today the gap was 10ft at least…. 1 guy….how he got out there I have NO idea.
There were some people at the end of the road but how they were doing is another thing.

alright, you guys win..La Crosse GTG CANCELED..I’ll be on the river.

As far as an open water gtg..I’m all for a bass tournament out of goose island the weekend after school lets out. Let me know who all is interested and we can get the ball rolling. I’m still a bit that this gtg just couldn’t work out..But let the ice go! I’m sick of it

I’m glad you decided to stay dry Cade
I know everyone here appreciates the effort you put forth for an ice fishing get together here in the La Crosse area. There is next year and if the winter cooperates maybe we can get an earlier start! Thanks again for one heck of a try Cade

I would be all for an open water GTG. I might not fish them Bass things but, I hope it will be a time I can show up and see how you bass dudes do and maybe fish for some of those big goose island channel cats myself

We could even make it a combo tourney if you want. If we had enough people, we could set up categories..I can say from personal experience that the walleyes in the sloughs are on a hot bite in June..sometimes we even catch them in 2-4 ft of water throwing swim jigs! They are so jealous of the attention bass get, they try to be like them!

But if enough people got together, we could have groups and have more than one winner..kind of like how Ace Hardware tournaments are run. they have a 1 fish for Bass and 1 fish for walleye..Biggest from each will win a prize each. I was thinking we could make a small money pot, 10-20 bucks, and see what happens. I’ll make another post in here soon so we can start seeing who would be interested. I think we would have a much better chance with the open water.. Knowing my gtg planning luck, we will have 12″ of ice by June and won’t be able to get out!

Thanks again to everyone that was interested in the gtg. I’m sorry we couldn’t make it work, But things just did not fall into place. Maybe next year like Bret said!

    Thanks,
    Cade

Good call. It is officially open water season and I think that’s where I’ll be tomorrow as well. I agree with Bret on those bucket mouths but I will gladly show up to chase some ‘eyes or even pike. If I happen to catch one of those basses I usually just cut the line Thanks Cade for your hard work on this; you get an A for effort.
