Hey guys. As you probably all know, the GTG that was supposed to be held on the 3rd was posponed due to bad ice conditions. We have plenty of ice, and looks like we will have plenty yet for a while, but the slush and snow on top would have made for a very un-enjoyable experience for most. We posponed the event, and I hope we can all get together on March 17th. Same times, Same place…hope we have better conditions and biting fish by this re-scheduled date.Hope to see you there!!
    Details in this thread:

Ps, to all the people that said they could bring a grill, food, etc..You guys still in for this event? GTG *Posponed*

Trust me slop, I’m just excited as you man. But we gotta get together before the ice goes out..Let me know what you think, I was thinking we could do something similar with an IDA LAX bass tournament out of goose island or something..and have a potluck afterwards at one of the shelters. Let me know what ya think!

    Cade,

I’d be happy to help out with organizing a summer GTG at the Goose. I think it would be a lot of fun.

    Let me know.

Sounds like a day I’d be able to make it to the G2G but the weather doesn’t sound like it’s gonna cooperate

sweet Curt…I’ll get back to you on that one. It would be real fun! I was thinking the weekend after school lets out.. The fishing has always been good to me those last couple weeks and it would be cool to see people bring in a lot of fish. 3 fish limit probably… Also Thinking we could have a little potluck aftewards and have the weigh in/potluck at like shelter no. 5 or better yet, the one right up by the north boat landing

as for the winter gtg, Whats wrong with the weather? I’ll have to check again, but I saw 59 and sunny we have plenty of ice, I’m sure we’d still be on a good 8-10″ at that time in the area we have planned on. Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Cade

ttt..I’m going to head out soon to do some fishing on pool 8. I’ll give an update. It is possible we may move the loaction a couple miles south of the orgininal depending on what’s happenning in the next few days..I have heard that there isn’t any traffic on the lake right now but just south in a little backwater bay (community hole) the bite is good we will see and I’ll keep everyone updated. We might just hit that community hole today.

well We checked pool 8 today and didn’t do so hot, but found some fish at least. The first spot did not produce a single fish mark. Not one. the 2nd and final spot was the community hole/bay on the black river and it produced some bluegills, crappies, and bass. The bite was real tough, tons of lookers, a lot of extremely soft biters, and not too many fish making it through the ice. I probably caught a total of 15 fish max and my dad caught 2. Using the aqua vu however, we located hundreds upon hundreds of panfish, with many bass moving in and out. My dad also missed a nice perch on camera

There were about 15 cars parked at airport beach as well

let’s hear some feedback from the local guys, Mike, mudshark?? Should we carry on with the schaffers plan or would anyone like to move it to camp 22 where we know there will be at least some fish?

The slush isn’t much of a problem anymore..it has firmed up enough you can walk on top without falling through. The snow cover has been reduced to 4 or 5 inches of melting snow in most areas. The conditions are definitely looking better than they would have been last weekend.

Hey guys, I apologize for all this inconvenience, but we are going to make a move to a new location for the gtg. The weather situation was unfortunate, and traffic on lake Onalaska is still almost non existant. The new location is only a few miles south of the original location. The location is called “camp 22” and is a good sized bay on the upper part of the Black River. Directions to the bay are as follows:

    From Interstate 90:
Exit off the interstate to go to the LAX airport. You can use google maps and you will see the layout of all of this. Head NORTH towards the airport.. The name of the road is Fanta Reed I believe??
On your right, You will see Fisherman’s Road. Turn here. Go down past the gates and past Airport beach …This will be on a bend to the left. A few blocks past the beach and you will see a road that pulls off to the left. Follow this down and you will be at the bay. I would advise people w/o 4×4 vehicles to think twice before going down the road. don’t want to get stuck! We had no problems this weekend with my dad’s truck but it was snow covered then and may be muddy by this weekend. There should be plenty of space to park. I will try and get a couple signs showing you where to turn. Maybe some baloons or something.

    From Northside, La Crosse:
Cross the Clinton street bridge in LAX. This will take you across the black river to French Island. this road will bend to the right and you follow it straight up to the airport. Directions from here are the same as the directions above..right on fisherman’s road, etc. If you need anything else, please send me a PM, or call my house at 608-787-5785..I hope this will work out for everyone.

I will be down around sunrise I hope. I believe the gates open up at 7, but not sure. I will look at the sign, as I will be up for a meeting up there on Thursday.

PS- there are fish in there. I have heard there are some perch going. I caught some gills there on the weekend, but had to work. Some guys were doing pretty good in the morning though I guess. Saw one tip up go up but no cigar ..If we find a tough bite, there are 2 other potential areas within a few blocks of camp 22.

    Hope you can make it!

    Thanks,
    Cade

Thanks Ben..we’ll have to wait and see how it goes I guess. The bite could change a lot over the course of the week, and like I said, there’s always the end of fisherman’s road and blackriver beach nearby

BTW, the gates of fisherman’s road open at 5 am. thanks mudshark I should be there between 7-7:30 I would imagine, possibly a little earlier, but I do not know just yet.

For safety concerns, this event should be rescheduled as an open water GTG. Getting on and off the ice now will be tough. Not to mention trying to stay dry on top of it.
