The gophers won the MacNaughton last night but does that mean they are cursed in the playoffs much like last year?
Results from the last Ten years
Would be nice to have a long run in the playoffs!!

I think that SCSU will do better in the playoffs than the gophers. Sorry but the gophers don’t look too impressive to me. I think that they will be jinxed in the playoffs. just my 2 cents
If the NHL would quit taking all the Gophers second and third year starters, they would have that “senior” leadership it takes to go all the way every year!
As it is, every team is pumped to take their shot at the best, and by seasons end, the best sometimes just don’t have all the juice needed to carry the load.
You would be hard pressed to name a team that is held to such high expectations as the Gophers Mens Hockey Team!!!
Defense needs to step up. Too much standing around in front of the net. They cant be allowing hat tricks to a non top 10 rated team..
Hopefully we can wake up into the playoffs.
I was very pleased with the way they accepted the cup this year. It showed some class versus the group last year who thought it would jinx them later on.
I have my seat for the Final five and cant wait.

They do not have to go.

Excuses, the best need to rise to the occasion every time and especially the playoffs.

Really, I bet the other coaches in the league tell their players that they do not need to try as hard because they are not Gophers

I don’t think that’s what he meant….. I think he meant that because they are the Gophers that everyone expects them to be a power house every year.

Well perhaps I took that incorrectly, but it still has a “holier than thou” air to it that I objected to.

Must be a Husky fan………
Like I said……Not the way it was intended I don’t think.
I agree, Jacks post pretty much summed it up. It is pretty amazing how a program can prematurely lose stars every year and come out and be as good as they are. This isn’t just a season here or there, it’s year, after year. To not recognize the gophers as one of the best hockey programs in the country is , even other DI programs recognize it.

Hopefully they can get it together offensivly too. For most of the last 10 games they have struggled to score goals. Lots of shots on goal but not alot to show for it. They need to stop trying to get so fancy with the puck and just put it on the net and things will happen.
They have also faced some teams that play a defensive style of hockey. SCSU has a goalie who deserves to win the Hobey Baker award this year, and Michigan Tech has a team defense that doesn’t allow many goals anyway. I
I do agree that the offense hasn’t been the same since half the team returned from the World Juniors.
If you don’t think that the Gophers have a target on them every year, more so than other WCHA teams than I wonder what color the sky is in your world!
I think they do have a bullseye, I also think the other one is the Sioux in the WCHA for “the one to beat”, most years both these clubs lose players to the NHL, true they don’t have to go, but waving that kind of money around someone that is 19 or 20, why not. Anyway should be an interesting playoff season…and…GO SIOUX….

The Gophs are far from the only team in the WCHA, or college hockey for that matter, that loses top talent after a year or two. The Sioux have just as many freshmen and sophmores – and will lose them after this year ends too.
UMTC, UND, Sconny are some of the top programs in the country, along with DU, CC and SCSU. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, but all lose star players year in and year out.
I agree that other teams have similar loses of talent from time to time. With UND probably about the closest to that of the Gophers. But if you ask around to fans of other WCHA teams what team they would most like to beat, other than the CC-Denver rivalry, I would venture that most would say the Gophers.

Actually, both UND and UM have the same amount of players in the NHL (I don’t have the minors’ numbers in front of me).
I agree – the Gophs have the target on their back and (with exception of DU, CC and AA) are pretty much everyone’s “biggest rival.” I don’t know how that relates to losing talent every year though.
IMHO, the Gophs are the Yankees of college hockey. They have the largest market, great TV, excellent recruiting opportunities, a nice venue and are a large Big 10 school. Other WCHA schools may have one or two pieces, some with three, of the puzzle.
Geez guy’s cut us some slack.
In addition to Gopher mens hockey we also are the home to
Gopher mens basketball
Gopher football
Timberwolves
and don’t forget the mighty Vikings..
Let us dream about a national championship in hockey
thank you……..

None of that so called “air” intended with my statement, even though IMHO, Mariucci is the “holy land” of college hockey!
