I know I probably don’t have to do this but I’m going to anyway!

Just heard that my son, who is currently stationed at Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan, is being sent on a 4 week mission to a FOB (Forward Operations Base). The FOBs are small bases out in the ‘frontiers’, basically out in the middle of the sh*t. With the coming of better weather, all sides involved in Afghanistan (US, allied forces, Afghanistan forces, Taliban) are preparing for major increases in activity. This all means that my son and the other sons/husbands/brothers and possibly even daughters/wives/sisters at these FOBs will find themselves in Harm’s Way. Please remember all of these valiant soldiers that are placing themselves between us and evil in your thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts, prayers and statement of thanks goes to you, your son, and your family. Thankfully my Marine came home after Afganhistan, so I know what you and other parents are going through. We should all be thankful that we have the sons and daughters that we do, and enjoy them at every opportunity. May your son stay out of harms way.

You can never pray too much or ask for prayers too often. God wants us to come to Him with our prayers and requests, even though He already knows what we want & need. My thoughts & prayers to your family and your son for his service & dedication to the great country we live in.

Said perfect. Your son and many others are in my prayers my friend. We were created to have fellowship with our maker. Talking to our Lord in prayer is suppose to be natural and often. HE never tires of our prayers.
    Thanks, Bill

Thought I’d post an update… I spoke with my son on Sunday and he told me he wouldn’t be going to a FOB – he was heading out on a 3-5 week mission that would be in the field; he’d be sleeping in tents/on the ground/in caves… He said he’d fill me in on the details once they were done but thought I’d probably hear about it in the news before he could communicate with us again.

NATO just launched Operation Achilles, one of the largest offensive efforts to date in that area. The goal is to neutralize the Taliban insurgency in the Helmand area and get a major hydoelectric dam up to full operational capacity. This is also the region that supplies most of the world’s poppy crops so another objective is to put a real crimp in the opium trade.

A marine from the UK was killed in action on the first day and there are reports of a NATO causality today. The Taliban have fleed the open areas and have moved into villages to use civilians as human shields. A NATO convoy was attacked today in Kandahar but there are no reports of NATO causalties. Another suicide bomber blew up at a taxi stand in Kandahar, injuring 5 civilians, three of them children.

I find myself alternating between surfing the net for news updates and reading IDA for fishing updates… this is so f’ing strange….
