If you were to buy a new motor in the 90-115 h.p. range what would be your choice??

If you’re looking 4-stroke, I have zero complaints about my Suzuki (with a Johnson hood) 4-stroke 115. Bulletproof after 3 years of relatively hard use.

I know people will chime in with their own experiences, and I’m not going to tell you brand A is superior to Brand B, but I would not hesitate to go Suzuki again if I were on the market, which I hope to be again soon…..

If you are considering the BRP family, do not pass over the Evinrude ETec.

Evinrude E-Tec, no question about it. More fuel efficient, low emissions, and much lighter than a 4 stroke. Another big plus is the immediate hole shot power. I think they are having a big discount deal with an extended warranty right now. Also needs zero maintanence for 3 years.

I’d buy a Yamaha, Rob would buy a Optimax and Steil would buy and Etec. All great choices. I’d watch Suzuki though, it’s hard to pronouce.

ditto regading Suziki. My son had one and it was perfect. We both switched to Evinrude E-TEC last year, but the Suziki had a few advantages. I have little experience with Yamaha or Honda, but I suspect all these motors are good.

As an aside in the 90HP to 115HP range I don’t think there is much difference in weigh between the E-TEC and the four strokes.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Suzuki’s and just purchased a new boat with a Suzuki on it. Needless to say, I’m very excited for open water! My last boat had a 80 Yamaha 4-stroke on it and that was also a great motor. I ran it for 6 years without any problems.

My brother’s motor is a carbon copy of yours Jason. Maintenance in 5 years has amounted to regular oil changes. He averages a minimum of 5 times/week on the water from opener to Oct. 10. I would say he’s fairly hard on his stuff.
