Fish and Picnic

I’m looking for some suggestions on a place where I could do a family day. Launch a boat and then Picnic at a Park. A couple seniors are involved so easy in and out of boat would be appreciated. Is there any place other than sand bars that I could pull up and do a decent picnic if others wanted to join us? I’m coming from Burnsville, so I’f like to limit the drive to under an hour for sure. Maybe the Prescott area. Red Wing or Bay City would be the farthest south I’d consider. thanks Coffee

There is a beautiful place on the island just below L&D #3…..the island that separates the lock from the dam. The Corps has a nice mowed grassy area, with fire rings. You can access it from the lock side of the dam. However you do have to walk up the rip-rap shoreline to get up there. It’s small rock vs the big boulders. I’m not sure how “senior” your guests are, but if you can give them a little hand it should be no trouble. It’s free as well. Another plus of that spot vs. other sandy shorelines on the main channel, is that it is no wake up there. Just an idea.
