As a Packer fan I would love to have Moss in green and gold. The biggest mistake the Vikes ever made was getting rid of him. Look at how the Vikes offense has fallen off the map since he left. He does have two years left on his contract. If the Pack can work out a trade(nothing higher than a 3rd round pick hopefully)they should give him a modest signing bonus and add another two or three years to the length of his contract to spread the cap hit. The Pack has about 26 million under the cap but Thompson will not put the Packers into cap hell to win this year. Urlacher will never, ever be a Packer, let alone play for any other team unless he is at the very end of his career and the Bears don’t want him anymore. In his prime, Chicago will never let the heart of their defense leave.

Right on about Brian U. Plus, I am not convinced that would be the best move the Pack could make.

As for Randy Moss there is an article on the front page of the Milwaukee Journal sports section that basically says the Pack is interested, but Moss must agree to restructure his contact with less $$$ upfront and more performance incentives.

In addition to Moss’s regular agent, the paper reported that some of his affairs are handled by James Cook, the only agent Brett Favre has ever had.

Other teams interested in Moss are New England and Jacksonville.

Yeah, with the #’s moss is putting up, and his hard work ethic showing in oakland, the vike’s sure screwed up… I guess some coaches would rather run a team, and not babysit an individual, for the promise of one big play every 4 games or so…. Tice did, and we know where he is now.

I too find the idea of Packer fans who called Moss every name in the book suddenly doing an about-face and cheering for Randy amusing.

In all seriousness, I have my doubts that Favre, McCarthy, and the mystical Lambeau atmosphere could do what many other coaches and QBs have tried and failed to do. That is, make Randy Moss into a team player.

Beyond that, though, there is another issue, which is Moss’s age and durability. Moss’s greatest asset was/is his blazing speed, but that is one of the first things to go, and Moss has been in the league for eight years. Plus, Moss has never been known for his off-season conditioning and work ethic. Working hard and keeping in shape kept guys like Cris Carter and Jerry Rice competitive well in to their thirties, but Moss has gotten by on talent…which is starting to fail him.

Moss has also had injury issues throughout his career (possibly related to his lack of off-season conditioning), and they got worse in Oakland. A change of scenery may well make him play better football, but they won’t make Moss heal faster.

In other words, Moss in green and gold may well help the Packers, but he wouldn’t have the impact in Lambeau that he would have had if the Packers had drafted him at # 19 in 1998. Instead, they took the immortal Vonnie Holladay (spelling?), leaving Moss for the Vikings to take at # 21.

I hope the Pack don’t pick him up for 2 reasons. 1. Randy had a problem catching balls and going across the middle in a dome…I can imagine what would happen if he playes in December in Lambeau, catching a bullet from Favre. Pretty sure it would be a big disappointment And #2 If they pick him up I have to streak a town close to me, wearing nothing but a big green 84 on my chest I’d have to go out with some female friends and feed them shots so they can go down in flames with me. I don’t know if my wife would let me draw their numbers on though.

I can’t disgree with anything you said, yet if the $$$ are OK I would still like the Pack take a chance on this guy. Someone sees something positive, especially when the competition for Moss involves New England and Jacksonville.
And Lord knows the Pack needs another good receiver. Frankly,Donald Driver gets so beat up I doubt he will last through the 2007 season.

There are enough speed receivers on the market, I seriously dought Ted Thompson is gonna take on Moss even though they have the cap room to do it, Last year they took a Oakland throw away in Charles Woodson and gave him big money and it payed off big time. So the history is there of taking what others considered a malcontent, but how many do you really want on your team. I don’t see the Packers making any big splashes in free agency even though they have more money to spend then 80% of the league, Thompson is building methodically- long term- step by step…that being said there is still a chance they will trade for him depending on how bad Oakland wants to get rid of him and how willing he is to structre a incentive laden contract. Its fun watching Thompson build this team-

I’m a Pack fan and I would hate to see Moss go to Green Bay. It has nothing to do about his work ethic or skills. I just think he is a bad apple. If he wasn’t a football player he would be in prison (like so many other pro athletes). Besides all of his antics as a Viking, does anybody remember his ‘career’ before that? By the age of 20, he had been convicted of assault, domestic battery, drugs, and I am sure many other crimes that he went unpunished for. He lost scholarships to ND and Florida St. I can understand ND but Florida St. is as much of a criminal factory as it is a football factory, and they didn’t want him on the team! Through the years people have always made excuses for all his actions but with the number of incidents, it isn’t a coincidence or ‘wrong place, wrong time’. I also hear that he is mature now. Well not too long ago he was quoted in SI saying the 1970 Marshall plane crash “was a tragedy, but it really wasn’t nothing big.” Could a person have less class?

I’m glad is skills are starting to slide because someday he will repeat his past and someone will finally hold him accountable because he can’t score a TD anymore.

Personally, I would rather see him and guys like T.O. start a new league in Siberia.

Can you imagine Moss and Favra in their prime. That would have been fun to watch. I hope this trade is true.

I hope you are right but doubt it. I am not a big Randy Moss fan, but a Moss for Rogers trade would be fine.

    This was in todays paper.

Thompson says trading Rodgers ‘never’ discussed

Rumors persist that Packers backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers is on the trading block in a possible deal for Oakland Raiders receiver Randy Moss. General Manager Ted Thompson, who should know better than anyone, doesn’t put a lot of stock in such speculation.

“It’s never been discussed inside the building or outside the building,” said Thompson when asked about a possible Rodgers trade.

Thompson drafted Rodgers in the first round (No. 24 overall) in 2005 with the intention he would be the Packers’ quarterback of the future. Nothing has changed Thompson’s mind about that.

“I think he’s a very talented guy,” Thompson said. “He’s everything we thought of in terms of intelligence, and his physical ability, his ability to throw the ball. I like the way he handles himself around the team.

“I think he has all the attributes to be a good quarterback.”
