I am heading to Lac Seul in the spring and got to thinking about bait and lures. I know that ringworms, K Grubs, paddletails etc are baits used predominately on the river but I have not seen much discussion about them on classic deep water inland lakes. I can see were they could be deadly for smallies but are they effective for walleyes as well on lakes.

We used them last year on Kabetogama. They work anywhere walleyes live..

They worked well on our Canada trip, and it saves on live bait cost too.

I caught walleyes on a local clear water lake with them.

I not only have caught several Walleyes on LBDN…but nice ones as deep as 45′!!!! Ringies and Paddletails both.
With a nice chop going they are a great bait to drift with.

(BTW…LBDN…Little Bay de Noc of Green Bay, Lake Michigan)

Lac Seul in the spring……doesn’t get any better than that. I went in late May 3 years ago, up to Mahkwa Lodge. Let me tell you that it was a pitcher’s dream. Ringworms and grubs, thrown into 3 to 6 feet of water, consistently yielded eyes and smallies, not to mention the usual pike. I used plastics 90 poercent of the time that week, and got my fill of catching all species. I don’t think you’ll be dissappointed. Let us know how it goes.

People have been jigging the old jig-Mr.Twistertail for many many years in the “fly-ins” of Canada. Time-proven method for slaughtering the walleyes!

What I prefer about the ringworm more is the limpness of the plastic and how it “flows” through the water.

Besides, they are cheaper than Mr. Twister tails and you have a better selection of color!

I’ve been using them on my Canadian fly-ins for the last 3-4 years. Not only do they work, I have found the overall size of the fish I get on them is bigger than on a plain grub tail.

I bought a bunch and can’t wait to try them out on our reservoirs here in Nebraska on pre-spawn and post-spawn walleyes. Only a couple of weeks to go.

Its taken me three years to talk my fishing partners into fishing mainly ringworms when we are at Lac Suel. We go the week after the 4th of july every year. While people are pulling 2oz spinners in 30 feet of water we are targeting 10′ cabbage beds or wind blown shorelines. We have absolutely the fish this way. Electric Blue glow tail is my favorite on any lake although purple has been good also. Do yourself and your boat a favor and leave the crawlers for the birds. You definitely do not have to go deep as many think for these mid summer fish. Pitching ringworms to depths of 3′-12′ on Lac Suel has worked for us. Best of Luck!!!
