Has anyone tryed one of these for their electric trolling motor? Kipawa’s web page They have a pretty lofty claim to performance…I talked to one person that has one and they agreed but I always like a second opinion.
I do alot of slow trolling for muskies in really shallow water with the electic trolling motor and the thought of 99%weedless prop that takes less power at higher speed is pretty appealing. Thanks for your thoughts, you guys were great last time I asked for a product review!

Using a Kipawa voids your Minnkota warranty. I don’t know about Motorguide. I used a Kipawa for about a month in summer 2005 on my Minnkota 101. I didn’t notice any significant change in performance. After talking to Jack at Action’s Electronics in Anoka and finding out that the Kipawa props will heat up your motor too much, I switched back to the standard Minnkota prop.

In spring 2006, my first outing found my trolling motor completely wrecked as water had gotten in from too much heat. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. It was three years old. Now I’ve got a brand new 101. Don’t think I’ll be trying Kipawa again.

I put one on my PD 74 MinnKota last summer. I dont fish alot of weeds mostly open water pulling spinner rigs. I some days run my bowmount for 12 hours a day without shutting it off and so far have seen no problems. I also run this pulling cranks shallow at night.

I did notice I could pull the same speeds under the same conditions with a lower speed setting with the Kippawa. I do think I get a little longer run time to, the stock prop never lasted 12 hours like the Kippawa has. I run this on an Alumacraft Trophy 175 MinnKota PD 74 with 29 series Interstate batteries on dead calm water can pull 3.6 MPH vers 3.2 with the stock prop.. Rough guess I put 250+ hours a year on my PD. For me it has worked well.
