Still freezing rain here at 11:37am. State and county trucks have been pulled off because they can’t keep up with the roads. Pulled out the ice cleats to get around outside. This is going to be a mess once the temp drops to make it change over to snow. Trees and power lines are really building up with ice. When the high winds get here, I’m afraid it is going to cause some havoc on everything covered with ice.

February 24, 2007 at 7:04 pm #541118We got about an inch and a half here in Annandale this morning and still coming down but backing off to a lighter snow as time goes by. But the roads are slick since it started out this morning with a sleet/rain…
February 24, 2007 at 7:39 pm #541127Got up at 5am to blow out the driveway had to be to work at 7am, got to work and then we get freezing rain
I would have been better off staying in bed now my driveway will be like an ice rinkFebruary 24, 2007 at 8:32 pm #541140We are suppose to get 8 – 12 inches tonight and probably have a few inches now. Sure hope spring gets here fast. Open water warmer weather fishin fix needed badly.
Thanks, BillFebruary 24, 2007 at 8:37 pm #541142All I can say this is all more then welcome to keep coming for the next couple days. We need the moisture in any form we can get it right now. Hope this spring brings some measureable rain as well. The Mississippi does not look too good over by Clearwater and of coarse the local lakes in my area definetly need some water. Lake Augusta looks to be down a good 3 feet out front of sisters cabin in the channel and her dock looks to be on land now..
February 24, 2007 at 8:55 pm #541147I guess we are in for a blizzard warning. Its been a while since we’ve had one of these.
February 24, 2007 at 9:59 pm #541160Temp must be dropping. We are now having sleet/snow mix. Coming out of the east. Everyone play it safe if you need to venture out on the roads.
February 24, 2007 at 10:56 pm #541175Yes sir we have snow in our area as well. Came late but it still came this year.
February 24, 2007 at 11:25 pm #541187Im sitting here listening to the ice chunks hitting the roof that are coming off the soft maple tree next to the house. The scaffolding in the front yard right outside the window has chunks up to 1/2″ thick laying on it and were supposed to get up to 12″ of snow between tonight and tommorrow, possibly more. The wind blowing the limbs is knocking off so many ice chunks that it sounds like someone is throwing rocks on the roof. I noticed earlier this moring that the plow trucks were all loaded with solid salt and no sand mix, just salt. The trees across the street are all leaning too one side or the other with the weight of the ice and with the wind were getting now at around 35 mph. its just a matter of time befor they start coming down. Looking outside everythings got a thick glaze of ice on it. 8″ to 10″ icecicles are everywhere. Just got up and looked outside and the grass has atleast 1/2″ to 3/4″ of ice covering it and it looks like theres a 100 pound sack of ice cubes in my front yard thats come off the soft maple, were getting major ice right now. If we get much more freezing rain and with the 40 mph winds were supposed to get theres going to be alot of limbs and trees coming down between now and tomorrow morning.

I’m glad, we really need the moisture for our lakes in this area!!! Thanks…..keeper coming!!
February 25, 2007 at 5:16 pm #541323The wife and I just finished digging out after round 2 last night. We cleaned off 40 yards of side walk and busted out a snow drift 30 yards long in the driveway just so we can get our trucks in and out. We won’t be getting company driving down the driveway anytime soon
February 25, 2007 at 5:20 pm #541325Not sure how much new snow we got last night, but I got off easy shoveling today My neighbor went down the road today with his plow truck and cleared out behind all the vehicles and then pushed the big piles back into the yard for us
I almost have to put a leash on the little guy so I don’t lose him in all the snow we haveFebruary 25, 2007 at 5:22 pm #541327Not a lot of snow down here, maybe 6 inches( very wet), but we had ice starting yesterday morning after rain since Friday afternoon. I spent 14 and half hours at work yesterday. We lost power at the station about 2:10 in the afternoon, and had to get generators for the station and the transmitter, while the town of close to 10,000 were without power. It came on last night for a portion of town. The town, and county are under an emergency order, and some 50 counties in Ia. have been declared disaster areas by Gov. Culver. At one point overnight estimates of 100,000 were without power. They’re saying many will have to endure for 72 hours or more w/o power. I’m at work again, as no cable, Internet, in the appartment, so at least it’s warm here and I can do some fishing/dreaming, here while answering phones and typing up cancellations. I’ll probably do a few hours on air this afternoon. This snow/ice/storm stuff is a mess

February 25, 2007 at 7:26 pm #541352It was wet snow here this morning, then it started to rain while I was out moving snow. It would have been much easier if it was a lot colder out.

February 25, 2007 at 9:02 pm #541379It started round 3 here a couple hours ago. I don’t think this one is going to amount to much though. I may venture out soon and take some pics of the yard
February 25, 2007 at 10:07 pm #541394We got a bunch of ice last night. The power flickered on and off and i thought i’d go get some candles just incase. I went west up wilson and about a mile down the road the citys trucks were turning people around because of no stoplights in about 4 intersections right in that close area. I turned around and went east and where it crosses intersate 380 I looked twards town and everything was dark, no lights at all anywhere. I live by some communication towers and maybe thats why our neighborhood had power to keeps the towers powered. Everything east, west and north was dark, no power anywhere. Its kind of eary to look twards downtown with 20 story buildings and see nothing because of no power. Theres a few 30″ trees down because of the weight of the ice and wind within a couple miles of me but not as bad as i thought it might be, one was broke off about 5′ off the ground with most the trunk, another 10′ and limbs being the part that fell. Its been warm since early moring and the streets are running with lots of water. The snow they predicted never made it but snowed like heck for about two hours then tapered off, all wet stuff. It it would have froze ice for another hour it would have been alot worse, some around in the rural areas might have to wait a week for the power to get hooked back up. They estimated that over 100,000 homes, not just people, were and are still without power. Im really ready for spring as soon as it wants to get here.
February 25, 2007 at 10:22 pm #541400fishing was..interesting to say the least today I would guess we have to have well over 16″ of snow in La Crosse. Beneath that on the ice is about 6-7″ of pure slush/water. I completely got soaked and on top of that, only caught a few tiny fish. Really not a good day for me. I think this snow is pretty cool, but ice fishing is going to suck until it all melts or at least enough people get out to get it all packed down!
February 25, 2007 at 10:55 pm #541411Yep…messes things up good…….
16″ wet, heavy snow even on 18″ of ice is bound to put alot water in between the snow and the ice……
Almost suprised it was only 6 or 7…..I’m too chicken to go out myself
Hope it settles down for next weekend.February 26, 2007 at 2:15 am #541464We have about 10″ in Rochester, to top it off I think I fried my snowblower today
This is a shot out my back door.February 26, 2007 at 2:16 am #541465Just got home for the weekend and had a 4 ft windrow to shovel to get into the garage. Next I will have to tackle the sidewalks
