With the Lenten season upon us, where does everybody go for a good fish fry?

I like to fry some of my own up at home, but otherwise tend to go to the Trophy House in New Trier or the Long Branch in Farmington. Both are excellent places

Where do others go for a good fish fry? Always up for trying new places

Between Prescott and Ellsworth, Joe’s Valley, one of the best I’ve ever been to.

Both of the two mentioned are my favorites! Joe’s Valley gets the nod though! The Steinhaus in Vermillion is really good as well.

I heard through an earlier post the Bungalow in Lakeland MN serves perch. Any other places around Hudson WI that anyone knows that has perch let me know.

I love a good fish fry and attend one nearly every Friday all year long. That siad something occured to me. I am not an avid follower of lent and other religious things but as I understand it one is suppossed to not eat meat at this time? Is it only pork or is it all meat? Reason I ask is most fish fries use lard or a mix of lard and veggie oil to fry fish in. Easy way to tell is cool the oil off and see if it solidifies and turns a white color. if so it has animal fat in it and may contradict the whole reason some eat fish this time of year.

    Hi Buck Slayer,

You might want to give Tinucci’s in Woodbury a try, they do not serve perch, but they have a very good fish fry.

Thanks AJ! I didn’t know so I asked.

As for joints to eat I always enjoyed The Burlington Hotel in Alma and Mikes Dock and Inn in Fountain City. Not sure if either is operating these days but I sure enjoyed their fish and frog leg specials in years past.
