Diagnosing a hull leak?

Anyone here know of someplace that works on aluminum hulls.. Rivets Etc. A few fall trips to Mille Lacs and four to five foot waves at 40+ MPH took a toll on my boat. A late 90’s tournament series. Basically I have a leak I can’t find. If I leave water in the boat I cant see it draining out from anywhere but it’s coming in from somewhere. Where I don’t know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance-

    Jermy,
One thing is a real up and personal close look at all the rivets in the front third of your boat. This takes time. As you are looking for rivets that have very small black eyes around the heads. If they apear to have dark shadows or rings that should be a leaker. The real bugger is if you do find a leaker is how to get at it so you can retap it tight. That could involve removing the floor. Also retapping the rivets is a 2 man job. Just my 2 cents worth.

One other thing. Has there benn any holes drilled in the boat below the water line for mounting tranducers? I know it is not suppose to be done but—- Check the screws then and reseal them with silicone

Thats what i was going to suggest. 2 different boats and the leaks were from livewell hoses and clamps!

Great suggestions guys. Keep ’em coming. I’ll have a look see at the live well and the transducer mounts.

Wait till the weather gets a little nicer and fill the boat up with water. be sure to take everything out of all the compartments first. fill it right up to the gunwale. check all the rivets. a friend of mine had a 87 lund predator that was leaking and water was coming in faster than a few leaky rivets would allow, we filled the boat up and found it was leaking out from the keel. took it up to new york mills and found out he split the hull right down the keel. now if you really were going 40+ mph in 4 to 5 foot waves, you really could have done some serious damage. living up here on mille lacs, and fishing in most all kinds of weather, i have never seen anybody get a boat going that fast in waves that big…………………..tom fellegy

Yeah, it was a dumb move but we were in Vineland bay when it first started to kick up and had to get back to Isle bay before it got any worse. No fun! My speedo might have said 40+ miles an hour but maybe half of it was spinning in the air

I suppose it would be a good idea to put jacks under the trailer to support that kind of weight? That is a lot of water!

Hopefully good news! I just went out and checked the livewells and the hose clamp on the starboard side had completely come loose.. It was barely connected and had risen up about 4″ from where it should have been sitting.

It’s sounds like the hose is your problem but if it isn’t, make sure and check the rivets in your splash well also. I had the same issue…left water in the boat but nothing would drain out. After inspecting everything already said here I found 3 busted rivets on the side of my splash well. Just another idea. Good luck, Adam
