Honestly,I never cared for either Waltrip. They are big babies, as far as I am concerned. They are too much about the $$$, and not the racing. I liked Mikeys move last year, when he missed qualifying, he bought Derek Copes spot… real classy. They were talking about how he probably didn’t even know what was done to his car, but when you looked at his face, he knew they were busted… looked like a big kid pouting I never did agree with having a foreign manufacturer, in the NORTH AMERICAN stock car association anyways. It pretty much about $$$$$ now, like all big time sports turn into. JMHO.

It’s still not clear to me what the violation was, but it certainly was a stiff penalty.
We’ll see if they are consistent and hand out these 50-100 point penalties later in the year if the points leader or defending champ gets caught cheating, hmmmmmmmm.
Might be interesting to watch at the least.
I think Waltrip has always been a personable guy, a great sponsor type guy. Talented? Pretty debatable. When he raced for DEI he always really po’ed me. He would never give credit where credit was due. It was always about him. Not the great aero package DEI had. Not all the things he learned from Dale Sr. and Jr. I knew when he lost his job at DEI he with go down hill, like last year. But I never knew he completely go in the toylet.
z71, I predict that the penalty is as stiff as it was, because of the circumstances. Messing with the fuel or restrictor plate are taboo in NASCAR. Also, the Daytona, is the biggest race of the year. There are 61 cars vying for 43 spots. Most other races, will not get over 50 entries. NASCAR has said, they will ramp up the penalties, as long as they keep cheating. The way I understand, they had some kind of Jet fuel(high octane), in a gel form, in their fuel system. It is unclear if they smeared it in the manifold itself, or as far back as the fuel cell. Reason being, on first inspection, they confiscated the first manifold with the gel in it, then they put another one on, and after the qualifying, that also had the gel in it ? Time will tell.

Mike cheated in doubt. I just can’t believe he would do that with all that’s on the line for him. It just like he was made to do it.

Remember last year Jimmy johnson’s #48 team got caught cheating at Daytona. Chad Knaus was suspended for 4 races. They went on to win the championship—who says crime doesn’t pay. Also how come nobody says anything here about the Evernham and Roush cars that got busted this week. “Creative engineering” has been a part of Nascar for a long time. This goes on in every form of racing. This really isn’t news. It’s just the way it is. Pushing the envelope.
Nobody said anything about the other teams or racers I suppose becasue the name of this thread is Mike Waltrip. Start a thread on the others or hijack this one. Whatever works.
When they decide to get serious about the problem they will start suspending the drivers and not the crew chief. I can quarantee when it is the drivers butts on the line it will stop. But, Nascar is not willing to go that far so it will continue as it always has for the last 30 years.
What about the pressure to win from Toyota. They want to put the American car manufactures out of business. I am sure they would love to be in the winners circle.
What you say is true Scott. Hold the drivers accountable too. I can’t hardy believe, and maybe I’m wrong, that an employee of a race team would make an illegal change to a car without letting the driver in on the change. That just would blow my mind if they did make illegal mods with out driver consent. Why??? Cause its the drivers name that always gets drug through the mud the most, even though he didn’t technically make the change or cheat. I believe if someone made a change without everyone being in the know, they would be fired oretty quick for disgracing the team. But since the whole team must always know, including the drivers, nobody seems to get let go.
ER– it figures, you’d watch a bunch of rednecks go in circles!!!
Toyota in nascar, this is funny. I know they have been into the trucks for a while but it just seems weird. Anybody have any clue on what toyota motor they are running???? If you guessed a chevy motor you were probally correct, just plain weird

Waltrip’s car was caught using a foriegn substance to create additional combustion in the hope of creating more horse power a very serius breach of the rules thats why he’s getting more press then the others.
NASCAR said yesterday, the penaltys would continue to be increased, as long as teams keep pushing the envelope. How many POINTS was Jimmy Johnson penalized last year ? That really would have came into play, with his championship, had he been docked 100 driver points , huh ???? The $100,000 is nothing, the driver points are what will kill a team. Messing with the Aero of a car, is not as serious a faction, as messing with the fuel. This is not my rules, these are NASCARS.

Speaking of Waltrip……He went and out did himself again in the first duel today. He sent Jr. down on the in field. Waltrip claims he picked up a bad push in that corner. Watch the replays though, he was just trying to tuck in behind Jr. and not lose the draft, his judgement was off a bit….
And Coyote223, go back in your cave. When you have something constructive to do or say, then you can come out again. What have you been doing all day? Picking you dumb ???
I watched the replay on NASCAR.com and heard his spotter say, “small opening behind the 8…. about 1/2 a car” when he nipped the azz end of Junior, sending him spinning.

ER—Talk about living in a cave, you haven’t seen the light of day for aleast a month!! Get out and breath some fresh air it just might keep ya from jumping!! .
Hey Eric,
Is it true that you will be helping HONDA jump into NASCAR in 2008??? I heard you will be in the #69 “Loving Fun” Prelude??? Let us in on the Dirt!!!
Joe, glad to hear from you too. Does it make you feel good to know you were able to get a laugh out of this Coyote223 guy? He is the wanna be bass guy that bought my last Champ. He has the body of a sow pig and the mind of a 8 year old. All I’m getting at is it doesn’t take much to get a chuckle out of him.
To answer your question, No I will not be representing Honda in 2008.
ER-wanna be bass guy, sow-pig,etc…. Did you come up with all that by your self????? Someone’s alittle touchy!!! Quit your bawling, I cant help it if JHALL brought you out of the closet!!
In case anyone is wondering Mikey Qualified for the Daytona 500 today in the Duels.
These guy’s have been stretching the rules since the days they were running moonshine. Nothing new here.
Just think of the PR Toyota would get if they won at Daytona, their first race!
To correct an earlier assumption, there are more foriegn made parts on a Ford, Chev or Dodge then on a Toyota.
Nascar is no longer your in-bread cousins, beer drinkin’, tobacco spittin, ‘shine runnin little sport anymore it’s big time money!
“To correct an earlier assumption, there are more foriegn made parts on a Ford, Chev or Dodge then on a Toyota”
Give me a break, you probably run a Yamaha or Honda!
If you put the American manufactures out of business, you will put alot of tool & die shops out too.
Actually, all in all… many of the toyota parts on a toyota as well as the cars themselves are made here in the good ol’ US of A. At least, this is what was told to me at the bar sitting next to a toyota sales manager.
So Tonto,
Do you think that the Toyota’s assembled in the U.S.A. have all their parts made in Japan and shipped over here?
The U.S. auto industry is getting hurt by the foriegn auto makers there is no doubt about that. There is also no doubt that the U.S. auto makers “opened” the doors for them back in the 70’s and 80’s. They are here, they are staying. Now get past that and start to compete, win back the U.S. public to buy your products. Start with Congress, they wrote the laws giving all other countries manufactoring advantages.
Then go to Detroit and all the cities where parts are made, look in the EMPLOYEE parking lots and see what your co-workers are driving.
Sticking our heads in the sand has got us where we are today, keeping them in the sand will keep us where we are today.
