Not sure if this has already been put on here, But….

Yesterday at work, we got the official US Govt announcement that there is a new DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME, start and ending date for this year.
AND if it is new this year, It WILL always be the starting and end dates for Daylight Savings.

The new start date WILL BE March 11, 2007

and will end and go back to standard Time on Nov 4, 2007

All of this will be about an extra month of DST for the year. Mark you calendars….
    Jack..

    hi Derek,
In the big scheme of things. NO I can’t. I will just have to adjust my Solunar Tables for about an extra month for the year.

Eyebuster is right about the Deer Opener.
Opening day on Saturday will be DST time, and on the second day of season on Sunday, it will be Standard time. A whole hour of light difference for the 2 days.

    Derek,
If I come up with something Profound, (which is highly unlikely), I’ll let you know…

I was only thinking about the difference in the start of legal shooting time and the amount of light each day.

If my thinking is correct (which occasionally happens)
There will be one hour more sun light before Legal shooting time starts on Sunday, as compared to Saturday.
    That make sense ??

I’d heard earlier in the week that it began April 2nd of last year. I always thought it was the first week of April and the last week of October. Translates to three weeks ealier in spring and one week later in fall.

I’m more concerned with the new change goofing up the evening crappie bite during the ice out period. Prime time evening bite wont’ start until 7 or 8 o’clock Oh well, just have to go into work a bit more tired than usual if I want to get in 3 or 4 hours of fishing

I, for one, am VERY excited about this whole deal!! The reason being, I work nights. This means I’ll get an extra hour of daylight to fish in the fall and not have to get up so early and adjust my schedule. For once, the gov’t has done something productive! I’m very excited!!

The bill changing daylight savings time was pass over a year ago. But since so many computerized systems had the old daylight savings time date changes hard-coded, the bill also gave companies time to address the problem. So, things like VCRs, computers, etc, may well have the wrong times on them for the month between when Daylight Savings time starts this year, and when it used to start.

P.S. If any of you have pre-programed VCRs, Schedulers, and the like, be aware you may be an hour off for the 4 weeks after March 11.

It’s definitely official. It’s already set for March 11th on my Fleet Farm calender.

I am also VERY excited about it. It means more time earlier to play [fish] after work. I wish they would go 2 hrs ahead in the spring and be 1 hr ahead in the winter.
    Thanks, Bill

For folks working in the computerised HVAC/EMS system field, this is huge! The big “millinium” Year 2000 scare was mostly perceived. This is REAL! Everything in the past was changed automatically with programming. Now, we will need to change it manually twice a year. I hope the programmers write a fix soon! I have three different systems at work plus clock systems that all need to be updated! We have been working with our HVAC and Clock venders for a couple months now to find a way to make it less of a hassle.

On the bright side… (no pun intended ) we will be able to get more time fishing during the day after work!

    MS warning
There is an update for people running Windows with XP, SP-2. Not too sure how MS is going to treat other older systems that they no longer support, but I have already found a hacked update that I applied to my 98 machine a couple weeks ago.

A few more hours this fall to chase pheasants too. I believe you gain an hour in the fall so everyone should be able to party harder at deer camp.

I guess I just don’t understand the change. This is costing my small company thousands of dollars in man hours to update every system we have on the network. Of course our vendors are jumping on the bandwagon like back in 99. Sell the FUDD and spend thousands with us to update your systems.

We have some systems that don’t even have patches available yet. Thanks for the big lead time so we can test.

Another great idea our lawmakers have come up with. Can’t fix our healthcare or retirement issues.

I hope everyone realizes(though I’m guessing our lawmakers don’t ), that the earth is still gonna take 365 days to circle the sun, the earth isn’t going to switch how it rotates on it’s axis so your fishing time is the same, no matter what the clock says. Can someone explain how this is going to save us so much energy??? Again, I want to send out a huge thanks to our government officials.

    Kooty,

You have to quit bottling up your feelings about this subject and just tell us what you are really feeling

I agree with Kooty, this DST is a bunch of crap, created for the real purpose of having more daylight on the golf courses so the 9-5 workers have plenty of time to golf if they want to. Half the state of Indiana lived without it until last year. Some interesting things about dst on http://www.about.com It says one of the cons is the affect on livestock???? Cattle do not care what time it is

Well, the day is upon us and my small company has spent hundreds of man hours(my most expensive resource might I add) installing patche. Thankfully Microsoft in all it’s glory has only changed the patch about 26 times since it’s initial offering. I’m guessing we’ll have all kinds of problems tomorrow.

I have no idea if this is possible, but couldn’t you just go into the clock settings and uncheck the box for auto daylight time settings and possibly have to disable the internet time updates. Should be able to set time manually until microsoft gets its act right. My home computer with vista seems to know that the time changes tonight, I kind of wonder know about the machines at work(13 pc’s some running xp, some with 2000)and that is just for my area of the plant

What most important would be your outlook calendars syncing up. Good luck, hope all goes well for you.

I’m not sure if it has been posted yet, but you can check your computer at http://dst.umn.edu/ to see if you still need the update.
