Is it worth the extra money to get color on a sonar or GPS?
I see Wade has some good deal’s on grayline’s. Give me your opinion. Thanks

On sonars, absolutely. I still use a gray scale sonar when I map cause of what I do and this one is special. But when I get to go with Bruce Samson, the colors are so much nicer. On a GPS, well. It does make it easier to read a map though.

I do think Doc said it best…”there’s a reason there isn’t any b&w tv’s around anymore”.

I understand that everyone has their own needs and budget, but I prefer color myself. To me, it’s just so much easier to read. Black-n-white will get the job done, but color is king for me. It comes down to how much a guy wants to spend for the most part.

The one biggest selling points to me for me on color is the ability to see it in the sunlight, you find people with the b&w one adjusting them constantly to see them, I’ll bet you do it and don’t even notice. That’s not even mentioning how much easier they are to read, especially the contour maps.

I’d buy a smaller cheaper color model before I bought a bigger noncolor model, size is nice, but color is awesome IMO.

We have discussed this in detail in the past and I thin the general concensus from everyone is Color is the way to go if you can afford the extra money

Yep, try it and you’ll never go back to monochrome.

I had the same question last summer, and went with the color unit, and boy am I glad that I did. I was on a budget, so I went with an Eagle, And it is awesome for the recreational fishing that I do. And a good price as well, $450 vs $379 for a similar unit but in B&W. And then the Eagle was $450 vs $7-800 for Lowrance. The eagle still accepts the Lakemaster or Navionics chips, so that was the route I went, and I love it, so if it is affordable, it isn’t much more to get the color.
Here is a link to the unit that I bought from Wade

If you are looking at Lowrance, I recommend moving up to a unit that has the Solar Max screen. I have been at the other end of the boat with the screen on my LCX-25 tilted up, and I’ve still seen all the colors with good contrast. It also allows viewing at extreme angles- so I don’t have to keep turning the screen for my copilot to see.
