Sounds good I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one to show up. What time are we planning on getting there.

Do I wear knee boots or chest waders

lol, well you will at least want some good boots. Its pretty sloppy another thing guys, Theres a distinct possibility that we won’t be able to drive our vehicles out…So be prepared to possibly walk out to the fishing spot. The channel area that runs out in front of schaffers holds fish and it isn’t a very long walk. However some of the deep water spots around the corner would be an especially long treck hopefully some clean up is taking place on the lake as we speak, if not, we might have to improvise…

almost forgot….The public access opens at 7 AM says their website. I would like to be getting on the ice by around 8 AM but cannot confirm that yet. That has to be worked out with my dad yet. I plan to fish from that morning time until the mid-late afternoon hours, like 5 or 6…but it will depend on the bite. If the bite is really poor, I will probably make a move somewhere else and we can decide from there. If anything it will be very nice to hang out and talk with some of the guys from this site. Hopefully the fish are a nice bonus and I’m really hoping they’re snapping

Definitly bring boots……it’s WET out there.
As far as driving goes…..no go…..I would not even try with a 4 wheel drive…it’s that nasty….. you could see where tony got stuck more that once using a tractor…all he did was plow a path so the guys who had their perms could get them off the ice.
If your gonna walk any distance the best thing would be snowshoes…..otherwise is a SLOW go.

I think you should reschedule it myself. I am not going to attend, sorry. Standing in that much water all day is not much fun, let alone trying to get any type of shack out there. There are fish out front of the baitshop, but typically this time of year they have moved on to other areas. But hey, that is just my opinion on the deal

who else agrees with Mike? I am sort of leaning that way. Lets hear some feedback…We could postpone this til the 10th or 17th..or we could just go anyway. I’d like to hear what everyone else thinks…The forcast is looking pretty good for keeping the ice and even firming up the snow. Its supposed to get pretty nice and warm next week, which could melt a lot of the snow, and then its supposed to cool down again with some lows in the teens and maybe even a few single digit lows yet so the possablity of hosting the event on another date is definitely there. Lets get some feedback ASAP and I’ll let everyone know Friday afternoon what the final decision is

Well ,after seeing the lake yesterday,I agree with Mike also.
It would be a real tough time out there.
Like Blue said…..maybe even an open water…but either way I’m still game.

If it was to be postponed there might be a better turn out. I’m not sure how many people are geared up for the ice conditions we have right now.

I think Bret is right, the weather is going to keep some folks away and the conditions on the water are even worse, especially when you add another six inches of snow to the mix from last night and today. I would be open to an open water event sometime this spring or if we want to try a hard water event yet this year that works for me as well. There is going to be plenty of ice for a while. My two cents.

Well guys, we are going to have to postpone this event. Hopefully the 10th or 17th will work out. If not, we might just have that open water event some are talking about. I’ll keep you guys updated with whats going on..it will depend on the weather for sure.

I think you made a good call Cade. I know it’s probably disapointing as you’ve put a lot of work into this GTG. Hopefully conditions will improve and it can still be held. Thanks for all of your work planning this.

I agree with the call, too. I’ve cancelled my plans to even make the trip north to Tomah–road conditions are horrible according to the truck drivers heading my way from the Twin Cities.
I’m going to weigh in on the new date–March 17. I’ll be up that weekend for two birthdays at the in-laws. I’ll still be ignored then, too.
