They are still driving all over out there today. A few years ago we were still driving when the temps hit close to 70 This ice is not going anywhere for awhile yet.
I will not be attending since the Freeze Your Butt tourney is the same day

I was contemplating the same thing but since the boat is still not here I will be attending this. Do we need anything else or are we good on the food grill and stuff like that???

No- we don’t have that much food/grill stuff lined up yet. I figure we will probably need more than one grill, so anyone who can bring one will be a big help As of right now, we have some venison and chilli, but no brats or burgers or hotdogs. If anyone would like to pitch in some money to help out, please let me know. Another method we could use is just everyone bring the grills, and if people want brats or haburgers etc., they can bring enough for themselves and we can cook ’em on the grills

Top…got an update from my uncle and he said they were going pretty good out of Schaffers last weekend..He said there was sorting involved, but he caught a large quantity of fish and some that were really nice…The fishing should only be improving in the next week, with late ice approaching very quickly. Hope you can make it

We are in need of GRILLS and GRILLING EQUIPMENT at this point. Feel free to bring your own small grills for cooking your own brats, but please, if you have some room in your truck, bring a grill along! We don’t have any tables or chairs lined up, so I just do not think that is going to happen. remember to bring brats for you and your group, as well as anything else that you want. We will have some chilli and venison it sounds like for everyone though

NO problem dude, I didn’t realize it was venison chilli..but sounds awesome! Anything is much appreciated! BTW, are there any roads plowed yet w/ the new snow and are they still driving out up there???I know that the slush has really put a kabosh on the enjoyment factor on the ice the last couple days

    Thanks,
    Cade

As of today, the lake was VERY lonely looking and no roads were plowed. That was probably why it was so quiet. Not sure if Red or Tony will be able plow the roads again with all the slush underneath. They have been plowing with 4-wheelers and slush makes it very difficult for them to move the stuff.

That is not good news Could somebody give me an update on lake conditions by Friday if they do not have things cleaned up?? I’m assuming they are going to try..Thats a big loss of business if they don’t..but If they don’t have it cleaned up, we might have to make a quick move somewhere else, depending on the no. of people. I found some very nice bluegills and a ton of 12″ bass today, but nobody wants to make that walk twice thru 2 feet of snow

I can stop in and talk to Red and Tony tomorrow and see what they have planned as far as roads. If you have a 4 wheel drive, you can make your own roads. Usually nobody plows roads on the lake. This is the first year that the bait shop has done it. Most roads were just made by people driving the same trail. With this much snow and this late in the season, it is hard to say what will happen. But, I will stop in there tomorrow

Thank you wats Yeah I would be out there plowing if I could..and my dad has a truck but no plow nor 4×4 we even got stuck at dresbach north landing in the turn around a few weeks ago on the packed down path that everyone had been using that ate up all of our fishing time thanks again wats

Even with 4×4 it would be tough going. You guys have a ton of snow sitting on the ice pushing the water up. I might be thinking of moving it somewhere else. Keep us posted.

The problem with moving it is the snow amount is the same in the whole area

You can move it up here Then I wouldn’t have to drive so far and we only have 8″ on the lakes.

I just heard that as well. Here in a few minutes I will be watching the news for the word on what we can expect with this round I heard it could be as much as the one we just got

I will bring a little gas grill if that helps and I’ll have some venison appetizers as well. It may be just me but if it is bad weather the wife won’t be going to the Cities so I will have my little side kick with. You will be able find me easy; I will be the guy yelling at the eight year kid telling him to stop chucking snowballs at everybody on the lake.

Well, here is my report after stopping by the lake and bait shop this morning.
Tony will be plowing today around 1:00, but only out the few permanent houses out in front of the bait shop. The lake has quite a bit of snow on it, but what is under the snow is the problem. There is probably 8″ of water/slush under the snow. The ice is still holding up at 18″. There will be no way you can drive out there without getting stuck. Mccrty_ryn and myself are going to try and fish it tomorrow to see how bad it is. From what I could see, you will definitely need some seriously waterproof boots. There was only 2 people fishing the lake today when I went by.
The rest of the area looks the same way.
Dresbach is opening up really quick as is most of the areas with moving water.
We are also in another Weather Warning for tomorrow night and into Thursday. Another 10″ of snow could fall, but it is unclear at this point just what is going to happen with that.

Here is a shot of what to expect on the lake at this time. I am not trying to be a bearer of bad news, but I want people to see the conditions. Mccrty-ryn and myself took a short trip out to the lake this morning to check how the snow and ice was and try a little fishing. We didn’t make it very far due to tough walking conditions. No fish were caught and we did mark a few. Mudshark also came out to chat for awhile as well. The only plowed areas were at the ramp and out to where 2 permanent shacks were to get them off the ice. Other than that, it is all snow and slush. If we get anymore snow out of this storm, it could be very tough walking conditions. Even 4-wheelers will be having a hard time out there if they fall through the snow.

Thats not good news Wats. This is not looking good for the weekend could I get some input from the other locals…where else could we have this event??!!
I’m thinking options would be Stoddard, Goose island. They usually have good tip up action and a lot of small-medium sized gills this time of year. you can work and catch a few real nice ones as well but the bass and northerns were on fire at goose late february last year. Let me know because if the lake isn’t cleared up by Friday, I think we need to make a call and move it somewhere. Thanks,
    Cade

I had a name picked, I was drugged and coerced into changing it. Then I was told I’m no “Thomas.”

Too many Tom’s. If I use the letter ‘T’, then there’ll be a Mr. in front of it. I don’t have enough gold chains for that….I can’t win…

Well I think we can still have the event no matter the circumstances, just the location is in question. The thing is, no matter where we are going to go, we are going to have slush/water problems on top of the ice so maybe it will be best to just plan on going to lake onalaska still and hope for the best? We can always make a move during the day
