The poll results are in, and more people voted for the March 3rd option than the february 10th option. So March 3rd it is! Set your calendars for this date and I look forward to meeting everyone!

    Saturday- March 3rd 2007

Where: Lake Onalaska, Schafers landing- Onalaska WI

    When:March 3rd 7-sunset

what to bring: fishing poles, brats, grills, tables charis, send me a PM if you can accomadate our wonderful group with a 4 wheeler, brats, grills tables and chairs

directions- From highway 35 south bound:

turn on county “OT”…this will be a right turn south bound. Take that down, and then take your first left after that, follow it down and take your next right. I believe you will be turning on to count “Z” but I am not sure. Follow this road down and you will see where schaffers landing is. We will probably put signs out for the gtg also so people know where to park etc.

If you are coming from the south (northbound) You would turn left, again I believe it is “Z” right at the sign that says “Brices Praire” and follow that road down to Schaffers from there. I will try to round up some signs that we can put along the road prior to the event

As long as we have enough brats and buns to go around, We will be having a brat/burger/venison cookout at noon on the ice. Weather will permit whether we can drive full size vehicles on the ice. Ice conditions are shaping up very nicely in LAX so we should have optimum conditions. Please reply in this thread if you are coming and be sure to include how many will be in your party. Please refer other conversation to the other thread.

    Thanks,

    Cade Laufenberg

    Cade,

I would love to come to this event. Its all going to depend on the weather. If it stays cold out, the chances of my being there are much better. If the river at the head of Lake Wisconsin breaks open by then though, then I will have to stay here and concentrate on locating walleyes/saugers for clients who will want to get out as early as possible.

I’m hoping for cold weather! The spring walleye run can wait another week or so.

As we get closer to the date, I will do my best to find the fish. It is a pretty big lake and they could be anywhere. Depending on how far we are able to drive will depend on where I will be looking. Right now, there are full size vehicles running on the lake. The ice roads are approximately 20-24″ of ice. With this weather, for those wishing to drive on the ice will be able to do so at their own risk

The landing is called Mosey Public Landing. They have a new sign on the road where you turn to get to the landing. Schaeffer’s Boat Livery is right on the water and has a full line of bait and tackle that pertains to the lake.

I suppose I’ll help out with the scouting for fish. If my wife ever lets me out of the house again.

putting this back up We drove out on the lake today and the ice was looking very good. The ice is 16-19″ off the road where we were fishing, and quite a bit thicker on the road. Lots of people are driving all over the lake and I have heard of a hit or miss perch bite. Some people got into a few perch earlier on today by the runway lights, although there was nobody with a vehicle out there. Don’t let word of a slow bite turn you away, this event is still a ways off. The fish should be snapping by March, and hopefully we can put something fun together

For those who may be wondering about fishing license requirements. Lake Onalaska is part of Pool 7 and is considered border waters. SO anyone coming from MN will be able to fish the lake with their MN resident license
Also. if there is anyone needing lodging, there are several motels right on Hwy 35 overlooking Lake Onalaska. AT least one has a fish cleaning station and rents fish houses.
Schaeffer’s Bait also rents portable shacks and underwater camera’s.

I won’t be at the GTG for I will be at Everts Resort for the tournament/But I can say Lake Onalaska is a great fishery, a person is always bound to catch some fish.It is also a great place for kids.It is easy to get to, and the abundance of gills in the lake is always a good time .This would make a great family outing. The bait shop on the lake will have everything you need to fish it.You also may get advice in there also, they are always willing to point you in the right direction.I used to work there on the weekends for a number of years. So belive me when I say advice I even got it weather I needed it or not .So get out there and have a good time this should be a fun GTG .Hopefully i will make it for the next one.

Just looked at the forcast for March 3rd. It’s not going to be sunny and 50 but its supposed to be cloudy and 36 for the high. Not too warm, but a good day to sit outside and be comfortable. Also, we are going to be seeing a warming trend, but with the cool lows over night, I don’t think we will lose all that much ice right away, so we should still be able to drive out on the 3rd I would think

ttt. We have beautiful weather, and the fishing should be great It is still uncertain whether we will be driving out or not. A couple more days like today and that will be a negative but There’s nothing wrong with beautiful weather and walking out to fish on 10″ of ice rather than driving and being cold
Hope to see a good number of guys there

I lost track of this thread. Luckily Bret Clark mentioned it. I’ll be up that weekend for my wife’s birthday with her family–they ignore me anyway so count me in!!!
