My friend is looking at getting a electric auger but he’s like to know for sure if that’s the way to go. He normaly fishes alone or with just 2 people. He might drill 20 holes at the very maximum in a day. I think they’d be nice for redrilling the holes in the house so you don’t smoke out the house for 10min. But do they hold up in the cold and do they have enough power to rip through the ice?

I havent heard aything bad about the electric augers with the battery pack on them. I used an auger with a good drill attatched for a couple years and that worked great for drilling up to 18″ of ice, I can only assume the electric power heads are even better(and wont break your wrist).

If it was in my budget, I would own an electric. Maybe next year.

The Electric augers work very well. If he’s only drilling a few holes. I’d get a model that has the battery on the unit, not just the ones with the gator clips. I’m not sure how many holes you can get out of one though.

    Fixed the link.

This model comes with the built in battery and clamps you can run off a car battery.

I ran into a guy up on Mille this year who was using the Lazer version. Back when the ice was about 12″ thick he said he could cut about 25 holes +/- on a charge. He also said that if he used up all of the battery he had some sort of quick connect to his ATV battery.

It’s definitely and interesting concept. I had no idea electric’s have come this far.

I’ve had one for over 20 years. It’s slow but steady and I only use when I can drive out and pop the hood.

Just purchased a 7 inch StrikeMaster electric. My buddy has had one for over a year now and never has run out of juice. Very happy with mine, cuts fast enough and have drilled up to 15 holes in a row (12-15 inches of ice) with no lapse or decrease in power. No gas to spill, nothing to flood, no gas to run out and you are immediately cutting holes. Runs off the vexilar style battery-new will run you 20-25 bucks, so carrying another battery is no big deal in either weight or price. think the biggest thing is to keep sharp blades and let the thing cut under its own power. There’s my $.02

    thanks,

Agree! You don’t need to push down on the auger, just let it cut under it’s own weight/power.

    Nice and quiet too.

I have the lazer, It works fine for in the house and cuts like crazy. I have 2 complaints. 1 the switch has gone bad on me and so has the switch on one of my buddies. Strike master has replaced them no questions asked.

The other is the battery pack has to be charged frequently. If you want to change out the battery pack its a pain in the
