Thought I’d try my post in the general discussion area too!
We are planning a fishing vacation to the Brainerd, MN area -first or second week of June 2007. Does anyone have any advise on a good lake for fishing? -(walleye, northern, panfish?) and/or possibly a good resort that isn’t too expensive? We usually have a group of about 8 – 10 guys and havn’t been to the Brainerd area in several years?

I always used to fish Gull Lake when I was up there visiting my in-laws. Now I go to Mille Lacs. I’m sure you will get a lot of great advise here.

My first suggestion is ALWAYS gull. Unfortunaly the time of year your speking of may get a touch pricy.

Here are a few small resorts in order of personal preference that are in the area. I lived up there for about 5 years. If you check into Birch Bay say to Tom. Great guy! All are located close enough to gull that you can easily trailor if you choose. But all are on good bodies of water.

Good luck and I’m jealous. Sliderfishin will probably chime in with a few fav’s tonight.

Ruttger’s on Bay Lake. It is also close to Brainerd/Crosby for shopping and also to Mille Lacs if you want to try that. Contact Lynn Harker who guides out of Ruttger’s for a trip.

I grew up in the Brainerd area, really to many resorts to choose from.
Since my father has a house up there I never have had to stay at any of the resorts in the area. I did work at a few though. I will post a link for the resorts in that area. Brainerd Area Resorts

Chriss is right about going with the small mom and pop resorts. Birch Bay is a nice place.
As for fishing once again just too many lakes to choose from: Gull, N. Long, Edwards, Round, Hubert, Pelican. Just to name a few of my favorites.
I know that I did not help much but if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

OK, I just got off the phone with my dad, he recommends Sandy Beach Resort. Give them a look. Hurry though as many of the resorts are filling up fast.

When the time comes for you to go up let me know and I will get some fishing spots where they are catching some fish for you.

Also there is some great fishing just a stones throw from there docks.

Chriss, you know that point don’t you

I haven’t stayed at Sandy Beach, but I can tell you there are some very good walleye spots right out from their beach, like less than a quarter mile.

In the fall you can troll just by walking up and down their docks

Sliderfishin – We checked into Sandy Beach Resort and the general consensus for our group was that it was going to be a bit too pricey- thanks for the advise! We may have to stay on another lake/resort (less expensive) and pull the boat over and fish Gull. I’ll give you a shout when we get close to departure date!

I really wish that I could help more, most of the resorts that I knew well are now gone. They were bought out by builders/contractors to build condos and townhouses. I will not recommend a resort that I know nothing about.

You can contact Jason at Sportland Bait or here is a link to the resorts in the Nisswa area. Nisswa Chamber of Commerce, search Businesses then Lodging

If you have group that doesn’t mind camping there is a camp ground at the gull lake dam.
