Is anyone out there familiar with what it takes to set up a Sirius satellite radio at my work place. I’m not looking for anything elaborate………….just a radio that I can hook a couple of cheap speakers to so I can listen to “sports talk radio” now that FM105 has been taken over by yet another “classic rock” station. I’ve put it off for longer than my nerves can stand!!! My God, I couldn’t even pick up the Badger games this fall from that weak-a$$ station out of LaCrosse. I went to Best-Buy and checked, and all they are interested in is selling you the top of the line in everything they sell. I can’t even go in there and hand pick the items I need because I am clueless as to what I need. I will be totally in debt to anyone who can give me a list of what I need.

Not sure if the internet is an option for you at work or not but both XM and Sirius have online options.
Anyway your main problem will be getting a signal depending where you are in your building you may get lucky with the antenna and get a signal from your desk pointed at a window or you may need to install the antenna outside or on the roof.
So for starters where do you live and which direction/s “n,s,e,w” are the windows from your desk and what floor are you on?
Here are couple of good sites to get you started.

Doesn’t AM 580 come in well there? I get it in the Wabasha area very well…problem is they are a low power night time station.
January 24, 2007 at 8:31 pm #527382You will need a XM or Sirius Satelite receiver and I would get that with the home kit.
You can run it through your computer and use PC’s speakers.
Or you may need to bring a boombox or radio in to run it through.
January 24, 2007 at 8:53 pm #527396I am listening to Sirius right now in the office. If you have an account with them for your car or home, you can listen online. AOL has XM for free!
I love it! I hardly ever listen to “Normal” radio anymore!January 24, 2007 at 9:35 pm #527424Main difference is XM gives you major league baseball and hockey. Sirius gives you the NFL.
My money goes to XM.

may be to expensive, i dont know?
call them and ask them–they usually have awesome rebates on all products as well as free months for signing on-this unit can go anywhere with you–dont hesitate to call them though–u may be surprisedJanuary 25, 2007 at 5:19 am #527686Did you check the Xm satellite radio? I have the Xm in my 06 chevy crew cab. then I listen from my computer at work or my laptop at home. its free to listen from your computer as long as you have a subscription for truck/car, plus when you travel you will never have to search for a new radio station every 50 miles when you lose signal. Last year when my buddy’s and I went to canada we went 1100 miles 1 way without loseing a signal. it made the trip more enjoyable.
January 25, 2007 at 5:42 am #527707XM is the winner….unless you have to listen to Howard Stern.
I actually heard that they might merge…not sure though.
January 25, 2007 at 1:11 pm #527766I have Sirius in my truck and we have XM in the car. Sirius is by far the better service. The last time we took the car for a long trip the music on XM was so bad we turned back to “regular” radio.
I don’t know your work situation but the internet works great. Otherwise like the other post said about location of the antenna being the key if you will get a signal.
January 25, 2007 at 4:29 pm #527836I have friends with both Sirius and XM and have listened to both for many a road trip. I purchased XM a month ago. I like their music stations, plus, I like the fact that I can listen to a hockey or baseball game virtually any given night.
January 25, 2007 at 9:06 pm #528030Nascar is On XM to. In car radio so you can listen to the drivers and pit crews. Gives you about 5 secs. per driver and then switches to the next driver. XM has my vote. My boss will be getting Sirius In my work truck. Tried to talk him into Xm but he won’t he has Sirius in his pickup.
January 26, 2007 at 2:31 pm #528396Well that’s news to me. Good news Anyway. Then I know i won’t miss a race.
