Lake Cumberland drawdown

While I know most anglers on this site are a lot further North of this fantastic fishery, I thought you might want some info on a more southern lake. It appears the Wolf Creek Dam is leaking more than the Corp of Engineers realized. An emergency drawdown is taking place now to relieve the pressure on the dam. This will leave 90% of the marinas and ramps out of the water. This will leave Cumberland 40 ft below the treeline for nearly a year. Approximate loss of revenue is expected to around $152 million dollars. Not sure what long term effect it will have on the fishery.

    Thank you for posting this.

Although I am from the “north”, I have spent about 40 days on Cumberland over the years hunting walleyes. Great fishery!

My schedule does not include Cumberland in ’07 but might now–sometime in the draw down time frame. This a great opportunty to video the normal pool lake bottom where walleyes are normally found.

    Keep us/me posted!

While I realize that I’m looking for a silver lining, this may actually help re-establish some brush and weedgrowth that has diappeared over the years. Also, to maintain a 680 level may actually help the bass spawn because of the constant water level.( This has been very poor as of the last few years.) There will still be plenty of 100′ water depths to support stripers and walleye. (My opinion)
