Prayers for Protection and A Safe Return

My son is an EOD specialist (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) in the Air Force. Late last night, he began another mid-east tour that will find him spending the next six months in Afghanistan (Khandahar mostly). The activity level in that area has increased recently and I would consider it a fairly high-risk mission (not quite as bad as Iraq though…).

All things considered, I guess you could say I’m a worried father. My church offered prayers of protection and for a safe return for my son yesterday and I am so very grateful for their support.

I told my son last night that I would pray for him daily and that I’d petition other for prayers. We would certainly appreciate it if you would include him in your prayers as well.

    Prayers sent!

If you don’t mind sharring, keep us posted here at how he is doing over there!

I get about 4 emails a month or every other month from “buddies” or “buddies of buddies” overseas.

It is refreshing to read them, hearing the positive motivation of our soldiers!

    Godspeed!

God bless your son and may he have a safe tour. I thank, not only him for his sacrifice, but your family as well.

Gary would it be possible to set up a forum where we can hear about our brave enlisted and be able to thank and send along our prayers?

    Amen and thanks!

Sometimes, when we get wrapped up in our daily activities, it’s easy to forget that we have sons and daughters/husbands and wives serving our country in some very hostile locations… I’m as guilty of this as the next guy. Having a son head over there really slammed the reality back to the forefront!

Please remember all of them in your prayers and PRAY EVERY DAY!

Most emails are kind of personal, but I do receive one from a 2-star general every month that I would be willing to share. But the boss (James) has to give the approval for it. I don’t want to see my friend’s emails become “political”.

    Dear Lord,
So many good men and women are asked to put themselves in danger in their jobs as soldiers, and so many are finding themselves in danger every day. The soldiers work faithfully. Give them your protection, Lord, be a shield and a fortress to them, not only to their physical safety, but to their spirit, so that they can cope with the dangers their jobs entail, can comfort and uphold one another and can advance your purposes in the world. Lately, it seems that the danger facing these soldiers is increased. We know that you have upheld them to this very moment and with faith rejoice that you will continue to do so. Give them abundant love and be with them and all their family.

    Amen

I will send out prayers to your son and the rest of our military

Thanks go to all of the brave men and women serving in all parts of the world

    Gary,

I would think that IDA members would be respectful of the soliders, and not turn it into anything political. The soliders are doing there job, not making policy

    Down on our knees tonight
We pray our military family a safe flight
Help guide them through their daily grinds
We hope they know they’re on our minds
But when their tours of duty are through
May they return home safely, to me and you.

Prayers of support to all of you! We all get caught up giving support to the troops (A darned great thing to do! ) but there are a lot of you parents out there that have to sit and wonder how your loved one is from day to day and hour to hour!
My hat’s off to you folks too! I watched my Mom go through this while my brother was in Saudi/Kuwait for the first Gulf War.
Take care! He will be home before you know it!

    thought I’d post a update…

My son is still ‘in transit’… he flew from the US to Germany, then to Turkey, then to Manas AFB in Kyrgyzstan (to the north and east of Afghanistan). He’s been stuck there for a few days due to weather (snow in Kyrgyzstan and bad weather in Afghanistan). They were all loaded up on a transport out on the runway, sat there for hours only to be told to de-plane because they wouldn’t be able to land in Bagram. Once he gets to Bagram, he’ll make the final trek to Khandahar…

Just read that intel indicates the Taliban is gearing up for a spring offensive, centered in the Khandahar province so my son will probably be right in the middle of it all… part of me says “Oh Sh*t” and part of me says “Too bad for the Taliban, they’re going to get their kicked!”.

I have total faith in my son, his training, and the training and quality of the men and women he’s serving with… Still, it’s going to be a long 6 months!!!

Prayers for God’s protection for your son and all the military personnel who are away from their families protecting our freedoms, and prayers for the Holy Spirit’s peace and comfort for your family while your son is deployed.
