There sitting on the river behind Pine Bend. They won’t be around much longer with the river freezing up!

I have lived here for 28 years, and heve never seen so many birds! WOW!!
Mallards mostly, and a lot of geese too! The snow will move them along now…

I also think the water treatment ponds from Flint Hills don’t freeze up, so they might winter there too.

Yes, I was near Cannon Falls doing a Cub Scout thing. We were outside all day on Sunday. I noticed several flocks of duck and geese.

I think a lot of it is because with this last cold spell most of the metro areas are freezing over forcing the birds south.

They will be around longer than you think…That area always holds thousands of Northern Mallards that arrive well after hunting season has closed. Last year there were some Pintails mixed in also. Haven’t seen any this year as of yet…DS

Yeah, we always have a local population that stays all year, but not to the magnitude he is speaking of…
It looks like the Allied Invasion ov Germany for God’s sake! V formations everywhere, as far as the eye can see. If any of you have ever hit the southern flights of birds leaving Canada and going through North Dakota, it is like that.
Pretty impressive. They are hitting the fields between Cty. 46 and Hwy 55 and 52. Kind of a pie slice of land. It is worth the drive and pulling over and watching it!
