Shiners are either really expensive or really hard to catch and in both circumstances they dont live long and if your done fishing for the weekend you really cant save them tell next weekend does anyone have some advice on how to save them. Thanks!

I have separated my shiners in several 5 gallon pails with plenty of fresh non city water. I have well water now, so I use it from the outside tap. Change the water daily, and get rid of any not-so-healthy looking or dead minnows. I don’t know of any real good way other than that.

I have one word OXYGEN!!!!!!! Oxygen is what makes every breathing thing live!!! It is important to change the water often as well but one of the main reasons you change the water is for more oxygen. Consider geting a oxygen tank and a areator stone and you will have much better success keeping your minnows alive. Another key point is to keep that water as cool as possible, oxygen out of the bottle will help cool your water as well as it is very cold. Make sure you use rain or well water also. Shiners are very hard to keep alive but if you get fresh oxygen to them you can prolong there life!!!

    I hope this helps
