Well I went up to the cabin on Island Lake on saturday. The water levels were so low! Last year I thought it was bad but this year it is like even 5 feet lower. The falls on the cloquet river were it enters the lake are actual water falls it is a very pretty site to see. The sad thing is There is some ice on the main parts of the lake so I couldn’t take the boat to and of the bays so I just walked and shore and caster hoping to catch some crappies. All I could catch were Suckers and Walleyes(OF course I throw them all back as quick as I could becasue there were some really big females) it made me kinda sad. I am really scared about this opener if the DNR doesn’t close some of the places mainly the river area I think the lake will be over fished. Alot of people don’t throw the fish back they will keep them all I think everyone who fishes and if they keep them wil have there 6 fish limit. If anyone on the DNR reads this post I would ask you to close some areas or atleast downgrade some spots to catch and release only.
