Does anyone have any tips on fishing for Lake Trout in the BWCAW area. I’ve never been Lake Trout fishing before, but they say that they are there and I want to catch them. Any info. helps.

I was last there about 4 years ago, we caught several lake trout by trolling deep divers while paddling- usually they were on points and when the crankbait was digging bottom (i would guess 15-20 feet) we would catch some. The time was mid july. Not sure about earlier or later in the year. They are tasty and battle well, and I think spent much of the year in very deep water but we seemed to luck into them. Usually the crankbait was a deep fat rap, but I think it was the depth that was most important. Good luck.

ps- most of the ones we caught were in Quetico, but that is where we fished the most.

I have fished Lakers for 3 years in Canada. I have caught them on just about anything and everything in my tackle box. They are PIGS when they are feeding. If I had to choose a few baits to take along….

I’ve caught lakers off of points in about 15-20 feet of water in early June using deep running cranks. In August I found them in a DEEP hole (about 80′) and jigged spoons all through the water column and had great success.
