I haven’t had one for probably 10 years, and now am in the market to purchase some home defense mechanism (more belt than a baseball bat)

I live in Olmsted county…where do I need to go to apply for a purchase permit? Courthouse?

    Any help would be great

Usually easy to just work through the gun dealer. But you can go to the sheriff or police dept and pick up the permit to purchase. Fill it out and wait while they do a background check.

A better option is to get your permit to carry. Then you don’t need to get a permit to purchase. Walk in, fill out a form, pay for gun, take gun home! The way it should be. This is the United States!

    Big D,

Have you ever been out to the Handgun Range on hwy 57 north of Mantorville? He is a Glock Dealer, and has a bunch of other guns for sale as well. Then you can try before you buy

I think the name is the Minuteman Handgun range? He can hook you up with any permits as well, and he is a nice guy to boot

Then I suggest you make a trip up to the Cities some evening and join us at Bill’s Gun Shop who is also an IDA sponsor. If you can shoot it, they have it…or can get it in short order. You can shoot everything before you buy! We even have aotomatic fire events if you REALLY want to see things that go boom!
Bill’s has extremely aggressive pricing as well. Worth the drive in my opinion.

Want to shoot a gun that really goes “BOOM” ? Go to Bill’s and try out the S&W 50 Cal. Revolver.

That reminds me of a story….Dad used to custom make contender bbls for Thompson Center back in the 80’s….we used to get all the hybrids and oddballs….before porting…..I “got” to be the test pig for the .505 Gibbs contender….well, after it hit me in the back of the head, we turned our attention to porting bbls and the rest is history…

.50 cal is more than I need, but boy would that make a burgler wet himself

I went through the police (was told that was the only way in our county) They told me 7-10 days when I turned it in, so I figured 5 (including weekend) was pretty efficient

Hey D, can you hear my goose calling from your house? I’ve been practicing and the wife is about ready to use a handgun on me. She says the neighbors are going to get pissed. It’s music to my ears.

Smith and Wesson makes a hell of a revolver. Model 29 comes nickel plated but barrel is only 8 3/8… only lol
Shot one and reloaded rounds for it for years. Find anything yet?

PS when we’re done shooting…I’m going to try to get free rental for the S&W .50 cal revolver for those that want to giver a whirl. Just pay for ammo…and they sell the ammo individually.
