I am trying to sell an item and a person told me that they would buy it, but can only use a credit card and wants to use paypal. Is this something that I should be nervous about? How safe is paypal? Am I covered if they try and use a stolen card?

    Thanks,
    Joe

Paypal is solid. I use for all sorts of internet transactions. Never had a problem.

I have used paypal for years, and it is solid…however, it is more solid for the buyer than for the seller as far as protection goes. I think you will be ok

only one thing you gotta watch with paypal and ebay, if you get an email telling you to sign in through the email. don’t do it, go sign in at there website. had 2 buddies get ripped off this way. otherwise i personally have never had a problem.

It sucks if you are the seller. You get charged if they use credit card and they can file against you that they never recieved the item and they will get their money back. You need to make sure you get a tracking number to prove to paypla the you shipped the item. I learned the hard way, person recieved the item and got their money back because I couldn’t prove that it was shipped, then they left me a positive feedback on ebay stating they recieved it. Paypal wouldn’t use that as proof. I no longer use it for selling, why should I be charged a fee if the buyer uses their credit card

if the seller “only wants to use a credit card”

maybe because they have no checking acct.
The buy could still go to the Post Office and buy a money order. they pay the small fee for it, and you as the seller don’t pay anything.
    I’d have him send you a M.O..
why should you pay all the fees, if that is the case, the price of the item must go up..
    good luck.

Figure any added fees in to the shipping and handling charge.

25% of e-bays income comes from pay pal. It is a big thing.

I accepted his card on paypal, and it showed up on my account. I transferred the funds to my bank, but I guess it takes 3-4 days. Will see. Thanks

This can’t be stressed enough, guys and gals. I’ve been on ebay since 98, and used it quite a bit. Paypal is now an eBay company, so they are solidly backed, as described above. But the scammers out there have done a good job of making their emails look legit. So, whatever you do, DON’T EVER sign into ebay or paypal from one of those emails.

Our shopping cart at Jolly Ann Marine is a paypal shopping cart and has been for the past 4 years. It’s been pretty good for us overall. The IDA shopping cart is also paypal. Follow their “safe transaction” rules and you should be fine. It always takes about three days to transfer the funds. No big deal there.

    Devils advocate here

One time I sold something on eBaY and the guy that purchased it from me had stolen someones identity (that’s what I finally deduced from the situation since paypal and ebay were bound by silence in the situation) The paypal account owner eventually reported the account as compromised. Paypal took my money back and the item was gone *poof* I was out $225….my experience kinda sucked That was the only poblem I’ve had with paypal and ebay…Paypal’s solution for me….make sure that the buyer is verified…then the seller has recourse.

    Cheers

    Chris

That shouldn’t happen if you ship to the confirmed billing address.
