I had one of those nights tonight in law enforcement, where you just think maybe I should have chose a different profession. It was not even close to one of the worse nights I have ever had, but considering its new years weekend, I can only imagine what is to come from Saturday night and then Sunday night to boot. One person to jail right at the start of the shift, and you can’t help but feel for the person because they won’t get out until they see a judge at the earliest of Tuesday. Later a DWI arrest, a drug arrest, then shots fired call, only to find out the people are way too drunk to be handling a firearm and probably lobbed a round past another officer unintentionally. No laws against firing a weapon outside city limits, other than really torquing your close neigbors because they are trying to sleep. Instead of just being cooperative and saying what they were doing, the homeowner decides its best to show off and be uncooperative. So instead of just saying we will stop for the night and that would have been the end of it, the person gets to spend the holiday in detox. Then I find myself taking photos of blood pools in an alley because one person beat the crap out of another basically for nothing other than being there. Long story shortened alot a few other things happen, and I am on overtime again.

So I am done this morning and I stopped by the local gas station. A man comes out of the store stops me and says “Good morning officer, you probably don’t hear this enough when your dealing with the things going on, but I wanted to say thank you for all you guys do.”

I was so surprised that I didn’t even get the gentleman’s name, all I could do was tell him thank you and that it really meant alot to hear that. It literally changed my attitude about the whole night and really did make my day.

At 0630 am there arent alot of people to tell that story to, so I thought I would pass it along here.

Also, people don’t get to hear good things enough either. So I say to all the people out there who work hard everday, touch lives in ways they probably don’t even realize, and to all that live responsible lives and don’t require law enforcement visits to their homes several times a year THANK YOU. It does not go unnoticed that the vast majority of citizens are truely great people!!

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend

And here’s a second Thank You. Thank God I don’t drink. I did for years….been almost 20 years now…..but in looking back it was nothing but trouble. Today’s law enforcement is shackled with rules that lean heavy on the side favoring the lawless. My hat is off to you on this crazy time of year.

A big thanks from me also. I rode a couple of nights with a Rochester officer and was amazed at the disrespect of both kids and adults. I told my wife when I got home that I wouldn’t make it a day without wrecking someone for there nasty, ignorant, disrespectful ploys to look tough to their friends. Good luck and thank you!

WOW. And that wasn’t even your roughest night. I had no idea how a night goes down for officers. I’ve gotten a bit disappointed with an officer or two because of the big chip they have on there shoulder whenever I simply say “Hi” with a kind wave. But I can see why now. They probably are not sure how to react to kindness. My 5 year old son wants to be a police officer – I’m trying to sway him towards SWAT.

Well, enough said. Being a protector of the people could never be an easy job, but I’m glad you stick your neck out for us all on every shift – and I’m sure you do it even when you are off the clock.

If we ever meet (I’ll be the guy with the video camera – filming IDO’s TV shows) I’ll buy you and your partner dinner!

I have a friend who works on the Rochester force, he has told many stories about law enforcement.

I always say hello to all Officers and made it a policy to say thank you. I am also teaching my three boys the same respect of the Police force.
Be safe this Holiday weekend, and God Bless you and your family and to all our troops serving overseas,

    Thank You

Sometimes thats all it takes to know your doing the right thing.

It makes you feel like not everyone hates cops and some people relly do care about the nights you spend on the street.

Everyone needs a pat on the back now and agian!

A good friend of mine is a police officer for the city of Grand Rapids and a fellow guide in our group. He is retiring in 1 1/2 years. I know you guys have one of the toughest jobs there is. You put up with alot of disrespect and abuse in your job. It’s a job I don’t think I couls handle too well. Thank for all that you do. Be safe this week end.

I ain’t gonna lie to you. I haven’t had to deal with the police “in that way” but that doesn’t mean they don’t have my utter respect!!!! Everything they do goes unnoticed until it hits the fan…..then watch them work…

Kudos to all those who serve the public, and Happy new year.

I always found it ironic that those SOB’s are the first ones to spout off to you when it is their time to be a tough guy. But when the chips are down, and they need the police to save a life or otherwise help them, it is “What took you so long? Where were you? The first and only person they want to see is an officer.
You are appreciated more than you know.
Thanks for yours and all law enforcement officers service!
