I have a Navionics “HotMaps Premium North SD/PREM-N2 – Jan2006” chip. I have been trying to find a functioning emulator to read this chip on my home computer. I have a tan/beige “LEI 2.0 MMC/SD Card Reader Model 800071” that was purchased and came with the MapCreate 6.x software.

I’ve have downloaded and installed at least 6-8 different emulators and none of them have been successful. From previous communications, NavPlanner software from Lowrance would allow us to view these Maps chips. It’s getting colder in the garage and I really don’t want to be sitting in my boat looking at map using my Lowrance LMS-339C DFiGPS.

Anyone on this site actually was successful in using an emulator to view the SD Chip? If so, which emulator did you use? If this is not supported by Lowrance, why not? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I cant help you with the emulator, but I bought a ciggertte lighter power plug at Gander and a little 12 power outlet thingy at walmart that plugs into the regular 120v outlets, and I can play with it inside. Idealy I bought this so I can put it on my wheeler for ice fishing, I just happens to work for monkeying around at home too. Amazing the gps works when I’m sitting in bed with my blinds closed.

I think in the past Navionics made it so you couldn’t read their chips on computers, so no emulator. My understanding now is Fugawi can read their chips, but you have to buy the more expensive ENC version and a special card reader from Navionics. Also heard Navionics was going to write their own software, like Lake Master, that you could buy with their card reader that would let you view their maps.
I’ll ask Doc about it today.

NavPlanner is Navionics software and you can view Navionics maps with it. My advice on using emulators for reading any map card is don’t. It can work but there have been rare card failures using emulators and then you have to buy a new card.

Thanks Doc. That pretty much sums it up. Regarding the NavPlanner, I believe version 1.0 was out and it had many problems. Does anyone have more information on the current status of NavPlanner?

I have used the LMS-330C emulator/Lowrance card reader with my navionics chip and it worked. But, like Doc and Warren noted, if you lose the data on the chip somehow, you’re not covered. It’s at your own risk.

You can purchase a Navplanner made by Navionics to read the Navionics chip on you PC. In that case, you would be covered. The Navionics Navplanner is $129.99

    PC ROUTE PLANNER
Plan your route on PC using NavPlanner’s
easy-to-use navigational tools with Navionics HotMaps, Silver, Gold or Platinum Charts.

    ROUTE MANAGER
Load, edit, save and transfer routes and waypoints from PC to plotter and back again.

    MULTI CARD READER INCLUDED
Navionics all-purpose 23-in-1 Multi Card Reader transfers route data to and from your cartridge.

I have them in stock if you need one. Use the link and scroll to the bottom: NavPlanner at Jolly Ann .
