It’s that time of year again everyone! The yearlings are getting the boots so mama can begin fresh with her newborn fawn(s). I saw 14 deer Sunday night and 11 last night……….all but 3 were clearly last spring’s fawns. Anyway, last night, for the second time since Sunday, I got clipped by a deer! The first made it past the vehicle but hit the boat and the second clipped my driver’s front quarter panel and tire. The deer appeared to be okay in both cases, as has been my vehicle and boat.

They’re young, inexperienced, and being chased out so they’re not using their heads at all! Both cases had deer just charging for the other side of the road.

I know you guys are traveling around to your favorite rivers and lakes and such I just wanted to let you know the “spring splat” is upon us and too BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! These conditions will last into June.

Good reminder Stillakid! But I wouldn’t just limit it to travelers.
In ’85 my daughter was 4 years old playing with a puzzle on the floor in the living room of my parents house in Hutchinson. A young buck thought that the picture window was a great place to jump through and went right over my daughters head. After my dad placed her in his truck, the DNR captured it in one of the bedrooms. After the local vet stitch him back up (over 200) he spent the rest of his life at the Gopher campfire game farm.
With all the glass from the double pained window that “showered” the living room, it was a miricle my daughter came out without a scratch. The bedroom looked like someone was murdered with all the blood from the young deer.

My folks now have blinds on their picture window to help these youngsters figure out that this is not a portal to the next stand of trees!

This time of year, you can count on them to do the unexpected!
