Being in the business of tax prep I have done research on this and from what I can tell it is legit. Here is the IRS page details:

This is for tax billed on Long Distance one… not local service. I would be careful with anyone claiming tax credits who did not get charged for Long Distance Calling… or anyone thinking they are going to apply for the credit who did not have telephone service in there name. I notice that this also includes cell phones that make long distance calls. Are there any cell carriers left out there that don’t have free long distance?

Anyway… again, this is for Long Distance. If you haven’t used it… don’t apply for it. Remember… this is the IRS we are talking about!

Better than this credit would be if we could figure out how to reduce everybodies phone bill by about $6 per month depending if you live in MN, Ia or Wi. They all charge this “subscriber line charge-interstate” This is in addition to your 1 party residence line charge of $15 +/-depending on state and phone company. We are being ripped off. Check it out call your state representatives. It’s the Federal Goverrnment that is doing this but so far they aren’t listening. If you want my whole package send me an e-mail at [email protected]
