there are many good choices, I would not get a camera with less that 2.o mpixels, the higher the number of megpixels the more expensive the camera is. mine is a Kodak 3.1 DX4330 and it was 299. also optical zoom is more desireable tha digital zoom. most have a combination of both, like 3X opt/ plus 3X dig zoom for a total of near 10. digital zoom will distort, the opt won’t. a self timer would be good to have so you can take pictures of yourself for those times when you are by yourself. hope that helps. Glimpy, there is no best digital camera for fishing pictures under $200. You’ll eventually want to transfer them to your computer and print some of them to show around. I have to go Jacl one better and say minimum of 3 megs. Start saving up money now and comparison shop on the internet. Go to http://www.goggle.com and type in ‘digital cameras’ in the search box. In the mean time, maybe you have a friend with a camera that you can invite to go fishinf.

Actually, if all you are interested in doing is shooting pix to post on a forum like this or e-mail to friends ,all you need is 1 MP. (or less) You can get a 1 mp at Fleet Farm for $89. Works just fine.

As mentioned, if you intend to have pictures printed (Like from Pro-X) or print them yourself on a color printer, go with a 3 MP or better.

I have a Fuji FinePix 2650 that I really like. 2MP is plenty unless you want to make large prints (8X10) with it. With this camera and a photo printer (eg, HP photo printer) you can print 5X7 prints that look IDENTICAL to those done with 35mm film cameras – literally can’t tell the difference if you have a good photo printer and photo paper. For the web, the Fuji pictures look great. Also does 20 second movies. The camera is under $200 and definitely worth it.

Hey Gimpy…….I use a Sony Cyber-shot that is 1.3 mega pixels. All the pics I post here on FTL are from that camera. It works great for all shots I’ve needed to take.
I think another important option is the type of battery it comes with. Make sure to purchase the upgrade on any batery offered, as these babies are hard on batterys…….
