I was thinking about taking Mrs. Hookem, on this train ride for her b-day. I was wondering if anyone has been on it & if wifes would like it? Also is it formal?

Yes it’s formal and it’s rather Pricey. It was nice, But worth it?? Maybe not. Although it is different. I took my wife on it a couple years ago. We had another couple go along.

We just talked about it at dinner last night. My two cents, I would rather set my hair on fire then do the Zephyr. Do the math, a three hour trip on 6.5 miles of track. The food was fine but at some point all you want is to run along side the train to get it to move faster.

Treat her right and go to the St. Paul Grill (New York Strip highly recommended along with the hashbrowns with bacon & onion and the best creme brulee’). You will spend as much but the food is much better and you can leave when you are done with dinner!

Dinner and Entertainment is great, but get another couple to go with. The seating is for four and it’s more comfortable being seated with someone you know as opposed to complete strangers. It’s a nice ride and kinda takes you back to a simpler time!

I rode it when it was dressed as Thomas the Tank Engine this summer with my 2 year old. Are you telling me the 5 MPH we went was as fast as it usually goes???

I guess I went for reasons other than speed. I was told that the tracks have been decommissioned and in order for them to be used that the train can only go so fast, otherwise it would become unsafe to operate on them.

I may be biased…when I went the girl that sang was dressed like a nurse from WWII and sang “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy” while sitting on my lap! Lets just say she was hotter than my steak! Aside from that highlite, I still had a good time because it was something different from the usual forms of entertainment.

    Well, I figured that!

I was just surprised that the speed we went on the ride with the kids was actually the speed it went on a normal run.

We went about 10 years ago and I was disappointed. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was cool but the scenery wasn’t that great. We went for my birthday (October) so the leaves were pretty but the tracks are located along a residential area so along with the fall leaves we got to see swing sets, etc. We got lucky and the two of us got to sit alone but like someone else said, go in a group so you don’t get stuck with strangers.

Like an earlier poster said it helps to go with another couple. I liked it; but the ride isn’t the attraction.

Went on the trip 3 years ago……I agree with Nav1750….to slow and at the end of the tracks you go through a housing development…..I also asked for A1 or Heinz 57 steak sauce and very very much offended the chef!!
