Don’t know if this has been posted yet, didn’t find it in a search. Apparently, if you pay Roland Martin enough he’ll advertise anything–like the Rocket Fishing Rod.

My favorite is the secret tackle compartment. God forbid, someone know you have tackle when your fishing. Here’s the link have a good laugh.

Not much more ridiculous than bringing your own “weeds” to the lake.

Kinda silly, obviously marketed towards kids, but I don’t hold anything against Roland for this. I’ve always found him quite informational and entertaining….more than I can say for some of the other fishing celebrities on TV.

    OMG…LMFAO!

ERonningen should get one so he can actually get his lure out there 30 feet.

Don’t laugh the next time you see one of us river guys on a lake. I will pull that baby out for skipping docks with braid…sweet!

Really??? I heard a guy can get a ticket for transferring weeds from one lake to another!

I can’t say much being as I haven’t seen them in action, it’s just the idea of it strikes me as funny.

If you notice, it was the ICAST Kids product winner for 2005. I would HARDLY call Roland out on this one!

I was thinking more along the lines of the guy that hollars “slob-a-saurus” repeatedly while spitting on everyone in the boat…must be all that Pabst!? Or how about that BJ Outdoors? If you want to know how to to beat a trophy fish into the side of the boat, or drop him on the floor a couple times before releasing him, just watch that show once. You will learn a lot!

I know, I know….”change the channel if you don’t like it”….to what, the Vikings?

I understand Roland has to make a living. But come on, what ever happened to a cane pole and panfish for teaching kids how to fish.

This just seems like a silly gimmick guised under the “getting kids out on the water” sentiments. Many of us have taken kids fishing before, and, to me at least, they always have the most fun when they are catching fish.

My .02 cents says, to give kids lost of fast, easy fishing action, and don’t make it too long. They will generally like it and be back for more. This just looks like a way for dad to spend money on something that is definitely not needed in the market.

    Once again just my thoughts.

Nate, Dont you think the youth is our future in this sport. Applause is needed for the effort towards children.

Of course children are the future of fishing. But I think there is a mistake made in some circles that some flashy toy is the answer to enjoying it.

Kids should be mentored in fishing like everything else. We all fish for various reasons, but at the end of the day many of them are the same. Relaxation, being in the outdoors, experiencing nature, gathering food, and spending time with family and friends are first and foremost.

Having value these things and becoming a good sportsman or sportswoman is much more important than getting kids some kind of silly throw-away-in-a-year type of equipment.

If you want kids to value fishing equipment, than get them something worth valuing. For instance, when my dad was teaching me to fish and I was old enough, he built me a flyrod. It was just a 7′ fiberglass rod, but at that time it was something special. I still have that rod to this day.

I’m all for getting kids on the water, but using that sentiment to sell some cheap gimmick doesn’t seem right to me; even if it seems to be a popular marketing plan these days.

Once again, just my .02, from a curmudgeon.

I don’t care what you guy’s think about this product, but I am throwing every rod I own in the garbage tonight. There is just no reason to keep them with an invention like this out on the market.

You’ve got to hand it to him.
He has made his living off fishing for MANY MANY years!
I caught him this weekend with B Pro’s Johnny Morris.

    “Son that’s a big bass”

He’s no different than everyone else trying to make a buck on TV.

    Ferny

I still find him entertaining, and would fish with him any day

The days of bugs bunny, wiley cayote, and fog horn leghorn, have passed. I guess snoopy poles have too. However if that goofy rocket rod thingy is what it takes to get a kid out fishing,….so be it. If my kid has the option of a rocket rod or to get all hopped up on meth,…I’ll buy as many rocket rods as they want. Think of how long a kid could stay entertained with one of those. Even shooting siblings with it.
But hey, anything to get a kid fishing.

Just another item resembling a gun is my .02
I think we have enough problems with t.v. shows for kids with guns, schools with guns being brought into them and now fishing has a device that you pump like a shotgun and is revolving around the market to intice kids into the sport of fishing…

I went to bed last night and I had a Tim Taylor epiphany. A little duct tape to hold the reel on and you have the ultimate Rocket Fishing Rod. Can we say Spud Gun.

Of course you’d have to have the standard warnings about making sure it was clear down range where you were casting, but why sweat the small stuff.

I am only kidding. Could you imagine what a tangle and the lure snapping back would be like.

Or how bad your thumb would burn trying to feather the reel during the “cast”.

Truthfully I think everyone should have at least 1 or more in their boat at all times. Just think, the next time some dumb comes to close to you on the water and cuts or wraps your line around his prop or those PWC’s or skiers are bugging you you pull that baby out and point and shoot it at them.
