I would go with it.The “Optipop” issues are in the past.Just follow the break-in procedures to a t,and should have no problems.

    I had a 2005 75,and it was flawless.

I also like Etec a lot,but they seem to be priced a little higher.A 75 for my old boat was about 800.00 more than the Opti.

I see a bunch of these motors and have asked the same thing myself….although NOTHING is flawless, the 150 opti has been a very good reliable power plant.Good Luck!

I would go with E-TEC despite the $1,000 or so difference in price. Yamaha is another great option. If you haven’t do a bit of research and then decide.

I have owned two of them. A “98”, and currently run a “02”. Both have been trouble free. Great gas mileage, low oil consumption, very little stink, troll @ idle, all day and night! But, I do all of the recomended preventitive maintenance, use non-ethenol premium fuel, and use the recomended lubricants.
IMO, If you want the “GO” of a 2 stroke, You can’t go wrong with any of the brands of “direct injected” motors. If you want quiet, and no-stink, the 4 stroke is the way to go.

The 150 HP and lower HP Optis have never had a problem like desecribed above. That problem was only in their big block motors 175,200,225. There “little” guys have been proven work horses in the Mercury lineup. I have a 135HP OPTIMAX and it has been “Steady Eddy” with no problems what so ever. I believe the 135 actually outputs 147 HP. So yes an over achiever also.

    Same here with my 135hp.

    You will love your Optimax!
