Can anyone tell me where there is a school for marine mechanics or something of that nature. Have been looking into it but all I can find is a school in Orlando,FL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t know where you’re at, but I think that Kirkwood Community College here in CR has a few classes on outboard and small engine repair (used to anyways). I would check around at some of the other community colleges and tech schools to see if there is something you could take for a couple hundred bucks to get started.

If you find one, let us know – I wouldn’t mind taking one. I’ve been doing engine work since I was about 5, but outboards intimidate me something fierce because of the way they cram everything in under the cowling. Multi-cylinder two-strokes can’t be all that fun to tune, either.

Of course, I’ve worked on a lot of street bikes, which can’t really be much better; I can still fish without the bike, though.

Florida might be a long ways away but if it is UTI that you are looking at, I’ve heard a lot of good things. It would be worth sending for information. Call them. http://www.uticorp.com

If you are interested in a career in marine mechanics, then I would suggest going to Florida to learn. I am a graduate of Marine & Power Equipment tech from a vocational college in White Bear Lake. They have since dropped that program at that campus. My friend also graduated with me, but he went down to the specialized (MMI?) school. Most boat dealerships and marinas will only take people who went there or equivalent school, and you can command a higher salary for sure. They also have a great placement program, and marinas recruit aggresively for graduates. You can pretty much pick where you want to work!

and besides in FL, it is even warm in WINTER, and if you had time off, what would be wrong with a constant Spring Break going all the time. (if you are married) Forget about the FL school. Jack .
