Winterizing a Yamaha EFI

I am going to button up the boat for the year and I have never owned a EFI before. Has anyone else done their EFI before? It is a F150 4 stroke. I don’t know if there is a different process or not from the carb models? Any tips would be great also. Thanks

The first thing you do is change the oil so that fresh oil sits on all of the components all winter while it sits. The next thing you do is take it somewhere to get it winterized, they will drain and change the lower unit, fog the motor, and stabilize any gas you have in it. If you only have a little gas, keep it that way, they will stabilize whatever you have and that way there isn’t much sitting all winter, then you fill er up with fresh stuff in the spring. Being that it is freezing at night now, get er in and get the lower unit drained as fast as possible to prevent any damage from the water that could be in the lower unit.
Hope this helps, I have a efi Yamaha F-115 4-stroke and got it done at Crystal Pierz marine, I do the oil myself (AMS Oil).

I am no expert on this, but fogging is for carbed models, and I believe Stabil and fresh oil is all that is needed for EFI models. You do not want any oil in the injectors.
I have never heard of anyone fogging their cars in the fall if they store them.

The owners manual gives instructions on how to FOG. I wanted to know if there were any other pointers out there. It has ports past the throtle body to inject the FOG. Thought I would see what else others are doing.

I agree with you Chris. My dealer told me to mix up a gallon of “what he termed pickle juice” . This included a gallon of fresh gasoline, 1 can of seafoam, and about 1/3 of of a can of 2 stroke fogging oil. After changing oil in the F150 and the T8, I let them idle in my tank for about 15 minutes so they were nice and warm. I then pulled the fuel lines off the boat and let both engines suck the special blend for another 10-15 minutes. After that I just shut them down and drained the water out of the flush hose (just unscrew the hose end connector). The lower unit grease was changed along with the oil changes. It’s pretty simple…hardest part is paying the $26.50 for a F150 oil filter.

The joys of toys. Just why is that filter so much more than automotive filters?

I am so glad I live close to Pool 4.
I never have to Winterize! It never gets put away!
