It is very disappointing to know that people can be that worthless!! Hopefully you will get it back.
Might want to go back and take another look. If you are like me once I get pissed I miss a lot of things. Best of luck to you!November 19, 2006 at 1:56 pm #500992That sucks!! But……. why would you leave it on public property??? I know it was locked but it’s still on public land. I lost a Lone Wolf stand last yearto coon hunters that trespassed onto private land so I don’t leave anything out now—-Good luck
November 19, 2006 at 2:46 pm #500994That was my first thought too Coyote…but a person should be able to…unforutnatly as this proves…you shouldn’t.
I leave nothing out, unless I’m willing to replace it…very unsportsman like.

hey man i had 3 stands and sticks stolen 2 years ago off of private land! really makes for a good day of hunting when you go out to sit on stand and only find branches in your tree! ive since started useing climbing stands! when your done hunting and climb down the stand is allready taken down! there for no stolen stands! kinda suck taking them in and out of the woods each day but saves on the pocket book!
as far as another hunter steeling your stand! there are a lot of unethical son of a @@!#@#$ out there!
I wish you luck on finding them and please kick there @$$ if you do!
and hey good luck with the rest of your hunt!November 19, 2006 at 9:37 pm #501069Thought it was illegal to leave a stand up even over night on public land. Maybe the DNR took it down.
November 19, 2006 at 9:47 pm #501074The case in WI is no stands are to be left overnight on Public Hunting grounds. So, you took the risk, and paid for it
I have had my fair share of stands stolen over the years, but they were all on private land. That really sucks
It doesn’t matter how far you go in public land to hunt, somebody will always walk further and find your stands.November 19, 2006 at 9:55 pm #501076I think you are correct… the MN DNR handbook specifically states that portables be taken down at the end of hunting hours that day (page 102 of DNR booklet). I am not condoning whoever it was that stole your stand… but at the same time… I would be a little irritated if I were following the law by NOT putting up a portable until that morning… having my eye on an area… only to find that someone was NOT following the law and “reserving” that area for themselves.
November 19, 2006 at 10:30 pm #501081Sad to hear people are stealing other peoples stuff like this, but it is true in the book it states no stands are to be left out over night. Also if you do leave them out over night and another hunter is then in your stand you have no right telling him to leave it if it is on public land. Now for the ones being stolen on private land that is even more sad. Some people just have no sportsman blood left in them..
November 19, 2006 at 10:41 pm #501082This post made me curious about Iowas regs on public land and it states that a stand can be put up 7 days before season starts and may stay there until 7 days after season closes.

November 19, 2006 at 11:37 pm #501093This is not state or federal land…this is CITY owned land and as stated it is a special hunt thru the city…stands are allowed ALL season long…mn dnr regs refer to state and fed owned or state leased land…in those the state governers..state can only govern how the deer are taken not how the city chooses to allow the hunt on the citys land….if they wanted the city could allow every hunter to build large perm. stands and dnr has no say as it it OWNED by the CITY not state…im not a ignorant hunter like the ones that stole my stand i obay the laws and know the laws…
November 19, 2006 at 11:48 pm #501099CLETUS..i agree id be pissed as well….but look what the dnr defines as public land…the city of st cloud worked with the dnr and and set up its own city oridinances with the city attorny to cover this hunt…ive been a police officer in st cloud since 1996…trust me when i say i have nothing but respect for the sport of hunting…theres now way id violate my moral ethics as work ethics by leaving a deer stand in th woods to as you say “save” a good spot unless it was allowed..
November 20, 2006 at 2:01 am #501133RVRAT- I am sorry to hear that…Did you do any fingerprinting?
Sorry that was my lame attempt to cheer you up.
What I would do from now on, is get your self a good lone wolf hang on ( I can’t remember if you said you had one already or not)…I would get the alpha hang on, the assault looks to small for me, and you don’t look like a small guy yourself…
Anyways, get that and a set of lone wolf climbing sticks, I can be set up in a tree, ready to go in 10 minutes in the light, and 15-20 in the dark. They are so easy to set up and take down, and quiet!!!
Best of all, they are super light and easy to pack in, and better than that, nobody can steal them!!!
November 20, 2006 at 2:05 am #501134I hunt the st cloud hunt as well and would be ticked to have this happen to me. I hope that you find your stand and i will keep an eye and ear open for any info to this. I have heard of many people me included leaving their stands out. this is the first time i have heard of one beeing stolen. To think that a fellow hunter could do this make me sick. sorry for your loss.
November 20, 2006 at 3:45 am #501180Again… I am not condoning it at all… but the regs do not say “state” or “county”. it says public. and, (disclaimer) I could be wrong… but last I checked.. “city owned” property is considered “public”. Now, don’t attack me… I am not defending the stand stealer. I think whoever would do that should lose hunting privileges for life. I am saying that if I don’t want my car stolen… I better not leave it unlocked with the keys in it.
November 20, 2006 at 2:55 pm #501290Thanks Luke…Actually prior to getting the stand stolen i took your advice and went out got the lone wolf alph..i hunted in it last night after playin with it all day…i got to say so far i like it…most of the hunting i do is on my land and i like the fact that it is so mobile.and quiet…i went with the alpha hand climber though not the sit and climb…lesson learned on my part trusting people would respect my property in the woods…im going to put in a call to the organizer of the hunt as there are many stands left in the woods for this hunt yet and hopefully he will be able to contact them letting them know whats going on as there are only 40 hunters allowed.
November 20, 2006 at 4:03 pm #501321You will love the hang and climb…like I stated early, you look like you are in good shape, so that stand is perfect, it is even lighter than the sit and climb. The reason I went with the sit and climb, is I had a spinal surgery a few years back (college ball injury)..so I like to be lazy..
The alpha hang on is just about as good as the climber. They are so quiet and easy to set up with the lw sticks!!
I think I like my hang on’s better than my climbers..who knows!I hope everything works out for you with your stand…maybe you can find who took it!
I fish up your way alot in the summer, we should get together next year and catch some smallies!
November 20, 2006 at 9:03 pm #501452first of all you seem dead set on it being a nother hunter with out any proof (you would be suprised at what length the tree hugers will go to to mess up your hunt, i know i’ve had run ins with them in the past) secondly if you are going to leave a stand in a tree overnight with a way to get to it you midaswell put it in front of the house with a free sign on it. Don’t get me wrong i’m not condoning what someone did. if i’m going to leave my potable out over night i use screw in tree steps and take the bottom 4 or5 out on my way down. just a thought.
ps i feel for your lossNovember 20, 2006 at 9:45 pm #501472slack..im not dead set on another hunter…just my first thought…after I calmed down when i realized it was gone, i found that many people dont want the city deer shot as many people feed them in the city and enjoy them around. As this is the first time st cloud put on this hunt i could see that someone would take a stand to try to get people not to shoot the deer..after some research today i have found that mine was not the only stand taken inside this hunt….so you may be correct..thanks for the input to all…happy huntin and take em with ya when you leave the woods
November 21, 2006 at 4:58 am #501644That makes this entire thing a bit different. As you stated later in this post it could be anybody that took the stand. I have participated in some of these inner city hunts to control deer populations and it is just funny the same people that feed these deer and raise havoc on these special hunts are the same people that call out the CSO’s complaining about there gardens being ramsacked by deer, coons, yotes etc. And of coarse when there BMW/Lexus gets damaged by a deer in the road WOW watch out then cause them same people will be in the city offices for a week straight demanding some action to be taken to fix this problem in the inner cities. But then when the hunt is on oh now they cant have that..
Sorry about your loss and good luck dealing with them deer feeders out there in your area..
