Yeah, for that price you could get two G3’s and leave one at Mille Lacs, and one at the River!
Now how can you guys put a price tag on something that carries as much emotion, and passion, as a new boat.
In all honesty, trying to compare pricing between those companies is like comparing apples to oranges. Both Alumacraft and G3 are built and marketed for a different market segment than YarCraft.
It seems everyone accepts the fact you can not order a Skeeter, or G3 with any motor besides a Yamaha, but people get all up in arms when you mention that it will cost extra to get a Lund with anything besides a Mercury on the back of it. At least you can get the boat and motor combo you want if you are willing to pay for it. Thats the price you pay to fill your passions.
What’s interesting also is that nobody ever mentions how or when all these shake ups really started, or WHO started them. Irwin Jacobs!! He wanted to buy Mercury some years ago and lost his take over attempt. The RCL was in its infancy and he wanted a motor company to add to his stable of boats as well as thinning out competeing companies that built walleye boats. So he bought out OMC, which owned several boat companies, including Lowe. OMC also had Evinrude, which he didn’t want because of all the problems they were experiencing at the time with their “FICHT” injection technology. He sold Evinrude off to Bombardier, which has become BRP, and became married at the hip with Yamaha. He has sold off several of those boat companies and today has added some to his “stable” of boats which qualify for contingency money on his FLW tour, which includes the G3 and of course, Yamaha! (Champion and Stratos are the other new members of the FLW stable) G3 is the only tin boat in the group, as well as the only boat in the group that is marketed to the public as an entry level rig.
In the end, the man that developed what seems to be everybodies favorite pro walleye tour is the same man that has created all the issues everyone wants to complain about.
Maybe the industry just needs more companies like YarCraft. Companies that build good boats and supply them to the public with what ever motor they want because thats the way the boat buying market wants to do business. It’s called the “Power of choice”, and you’ll be hearing alot more about it in the near future!
