Hey guys. Looking for a little help from some fellow FTL’ers. I need to pick a lake to have our PowderPuff tournament on for our bass club. Ideally I am looking for a lake that has tons of fish that are easy to catch, even if they run on the small size. I am also looking for a lake that has camping at a resort on the lake. It doesn’t need to be a big lake. Actually a smaller less pressured lake may be better. Thanks.

Green Lake in Kandyohi county is a great bass lake. These bass can be caught fairly easily antime of the day, especially on live bait. I don’t know when you are planning on going, but as the summer progresses, there is a lot of weed growth and the lake turns into a very recreational lake. There has been a slot size on the lake for the paat few years to increase the bass population. I know of one campground on the lake for sure, otherwise there are a few hotels just off the lake.

MFO, I’m not sure about any camping on the lake, but Big Marine has tons of aggressive bass in it.

What about Mille Lacs-getting to be quite a smallie fishery.

Big Marine is an awesome lake, but we use it as a get away for the wives and they consider that still in town. We used to stay at the Vets Rest Campground. Real nice.

The smallies on Mille Lacs are fun to catch, but might be a little of a challenge for the wives as many only fish 1 or 2 times per year. The wives also have their our tourny and with the 1 over slot on the smallies that would be tough.

Thanks for the ideas so far guys. Keep ’em coming!!!

    Mike,
Lake Ida is a great bass lake, deep weedline and bullrushes. Camping right on the lake may be problem.

Clearwater near St. Cloud is full of bass and can be an easy catch when the timing is right. It really depends on what time of year this takes place. Early spring some of the lakes around the Mankato-Madison Lake area are awsome. Lot`s of camping available. Flip

Clearwater is awesome! Lucky for me I grew up there. I use it as my little honey hole for guide trips when people want to go outside the metro. Thanks for the Mankato suggestion. I hadn’t thought about down there. We are going 8-23 & 24. Are they usually pretty good then?

It may be a little far for you, but Vermilion has both fantastic smallmouth and largemouth fishing. The gals would love it here, the fishing is great and the lake is beautiful.

There are some very good lakes in the Faribault area like Cedar lake, Mazaska lake, Shields. Most of them have nice camp grounds. good luck.
