Progress Report: The rebuilding job in Green Bay

Ted Thompson is actually starting to look like he knows what he is doing, Bret Favre is playing within the system and has 10TD’s with only 5 Picks, the O-line has three rookies playing with serious playing time and a new center and are starting to gel, Ahman Green looks like there might be a little left in the tank and is “only” 29 years old. The new head coach seems unflappable given any injury situation. AJ Hawk looks like he will be a certain Pro Bowler as he learns the NFL game and leads the team in tackles, Barnett is in the middle who is young and looking for and will get a nice payday from Green Bay giving the Packers a nice base of players on D to go along with Kampman having a Pro Bowl year with 8 1\2 sacks, heck you can even give Charles Woodson a atta boy for picking up his game the last few weeks. Ryan Longwell? I remember him, Darren Sharper I remember him too, and last years 2nd round pick Nick Collins is a big hitter learning the game and coming along. This Rayner guy looks like he is gonna kick better and he can actually kick off, the punter looks like he is a keeper coming from the Canadien league. To go along with Driver, Greg Jennings looks like he has a future with Pro Bowl written on it. People are even begining to whisper old Favre might come back another year if things keep improving. I’m not saying we are going to the playoffs this year but thing are certainly looking better and better for the Packers now and in the near future…..

Wow! Somebody needs to get off the Kool-Aid they are serving across the border. They are a 5-11 team any way you slice it…RR

I would venture to say they are getting better, but they have a long way to go. Al Harris is whining about his contract again and I have heard reports that Barnett is not overly happy in Green Bay either. I think Ted Thompson is headed in the right direction, but Mike Sherman left them in quite a hole. I predict 5-6 wins this year. Possibly 7 if Chicago rolls over the last week if the game means nothing as far as home field throughout the playoffs or an undeafeted season.

You know I hate to admit it but this team has some potential. If they keep progressing they may be a threat in the next couple years.

    Ouch that hurt.

Excellent Analysis and I keep thinking playoffs if the Pack can put a few more wins together. Those wild card spots are wide open and teams like Philly and Seattle are not all that impressive. Brett has not thrown an interception in the last three games and if they can keep the turnovers down the playoffs are a reality.

If you get a chance find a Milwaukee Journal/Sentinal from Sunday’s paper and give Bob McGinn’s article a read. the title is “Where Football Rules” and he does an excellent job of describing why there is no other team in Pro Sports like the Pack.

And yes, old Favre looks pretty good right now, especially when you watch other QB’s.

Don’t listen to the naysayers. The Pack is going through a rebuilding period but the program seems to be taking a turn for the better unlike a few teams that had such high preseason expectations only to find out they aren’t all they were cracked up to be. This Packer team didn’t look like they would be able to improve on last season’s dismal record but if they continue to play as they have the past couple of games they could end up with a winning record. They could also beat the Vikings twice which would just be extra icing on the cake.

Koolaid???? If you break down every one of my comments including “They are not ready this year” you wont find any coments that were not true. The Packers were 4-12 last year and hit rock bottom and are scraping down near the bottom now but if Thompson keeps drafting the way he is and the coaching can develop the base for this team is layed down. I don’t think they will be down for long, as far as first you have to beat us (meaning the Vikings)-the alltime record between the two clubs is Vikings 45 Green Bay 44 and 1 tie. Hardily domination, maybe you guys should take off the purple sunglasses and come to the light…..obviously none of you have actually watched them or seen them from the Koolaid accusing crowd….

They had no place to go but up after the first few weeks. Unfortunately, they have only beaten a few bad teams. Still the queens are only one game ahead of them. I had written off this season but slowly they are becoming dare I say watchable. I think 500 is possible but they would be lucky to make a wild card.

The 3 teams they have beat have 3 wins total, I wouldnt get too excited yet. What happens when Brett hangs it up?
As much as dont care for the Packers, it was fun to see them squash Denny Green.

They are 3-4 now and playing a winable game this weekend in Buffalo, then they have win-able games left on the schedule against Detroit, at home against the 4-3 Vikings who one week look like world beaters the next week look like the Gophers, they also play San Fran and the Jets. The tough games will be at Minnesota, Chicago at home NE (home)and Seattle. Looks to me like 7-9 if we have no major injury’s at keys postions, maybe 8-8 if the team continues its preformance progress…either way I’d be willing to lay pinks on my Crestliner, they will be better than a 5 win team this year!

and as if the Vikes are world beaters these days….Preseason talk was superbowl, now days its “how do we stay ahead of the Pack”.

Face it, the Vikes are barely better.

We know were not going to the show….you guys keep smoking whatever it is your smoking. The koolaid ain’t all that good, but at least us folks who bleed green aren’t halucinating from it.

“Go Pack, Go” Still not getting too excited about the rest of the year, they still need some more gell’n on the o-line. and the big D has some holes. They are only going to get better, hope no one takes you up on your pink slip.

Wow, I would like to meet a fellow Viking fan that predicted the Purple were Super Bowl bound in the pre-season. Considering the entire coaching staff is new, we have a 38 year old QB, and a defense that did show some signs of improvement late last year. I think a few Packer fans need a little whine with their cheese.
