Trimming problem…

I have a 2001 Angler SS 17′ with a 90 horse Merc. I think the prop is 18 x 9. The problem I’m having is when I have it all trimmed up at the top end, if I turn just a bit, the prop quits grabbing and the motor over revs. If I keep the trim lower, I lose close to 5 mph.

I’m not sure if this is a prop problem or just inherent with my boat. I ‘spose I should be talking with my Lund dealer, but hey, this is what the nets for.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I wonder if you might have the motor hung to high on the transom? It could be a prop problem……..best call the shop.

Could it just be a loading problem? Is the boat front-heavy?

Switch to a stainless steel prop or ad a hydrofoil fin.

Might want to check with the dealer and make sure a fin wouldn’t void the warranty.

What does the stainless prop do that stops ventilation?

SS prop has more grab(less flex) keeping it below the surface. Hydo fins shouldn’t void warranties. Jackplate’s will.

The boat in reference is also a bit under horsepowered.

Thanks for the help. I’m going to try the ss prop since I need a spare anyway. Although I like the new boat idea. 19′ Pro V is what I have on the wall!
