Has anybody been out to Devil’s Lake recently? I am going out there for the first time on Sunday with a couple buddies. We’ve heard of a few places to try, but it sounds like everything is a hit or miss. Does anybody have any suggestions on where to try fishing? We plan on fishing for walleyes or perch.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Josh, Nate,I and others were just out to DL last weekend and it was a tough bite. The weather really hindered us from doing a whole lot so hope for the best. One of my favorite winter spots for walleyes is the Hwy 57 bridge by the casino. The last two years that has been a great spot for us but I think the hard winter has pushed that bite back a week or two so maybe it will go for you. Most of the fish our group caught hit a spoon or a Jig-A-Rap in an orange color. The biggest walleye caught by our group was around 20″ it is slow considering we usually catch 10 or more over 5lbs when we go.The perch are going a little bit out by the main lake power towers so keep that in mind.I talked with some guys that had fished out their 4 days with the perch patrol and had averages 30-40 a day in 42-50ft of water. That still is not great numbers for 5 guys but it will get better.Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Went out to Devil’s Lake Sunday. Fishing was pretty slow, the cold front that came in that day didn’t help matters out either. It was our first time out there so we weren’t really sure what to do or try. From the reports and info we got off of the internet and here on FTL we got some good ideas of what to try. We went out to Creel Bay by the Towers to try for some perch. We set up in about 44′ of water. We got about a dozen perch, most of them pretty small, about one out of every 5 was a keeper. We also talked to some guys that had a camera and they said that most of the perch they saw were small. We moved over to the Hwy. 57 bridge on the Mission Bay side. We set up in 28′ moving shallower up to 20′ throughout the evening. We talked to a guy that had a underwater camera and he said there were a lot of smaller walleyes down there. We only caught 6 walleyes, most of them pretty small too, the largest one right around 20″. Our best lures were a gold Hali jig, a perch colored jigging Rapala, and a gold colored JB Weasel. .

All in all it was pretty fun. It was my first time out there so it was a learning experience, I may even possibly get back out there this Saturday too . It was also nice to get away from school for a little bit even if it was only for a day.

P.S. Thanks Brett for the info, it helped us to narrow down on where to start fishing.
