I have had Outlook Express block out some attachments to emails? I have not been able to get my signature working on it either. I get the box with a RED X

let me know and we can do a private email.

    Thanks.

    Bobber,

I believe that is a setting in Outlook somewhere. I was looking for it at home last night, then the wife kicked me off the pc. I’ll do some more research tonight if someone doesn’t already know before then.

Sometimes when the red “X” comes up you can right click on it with your mouse. In the little menu page that comes up there should be something that reads like “open this picture.” If it does not work try some other things in that menu. I have XP and I am yet to have that problem with any attachments on this site. Which attachments were you specifically talking about?

I can answer that. I worked with Bob a little to see if we could come up with a solution. He was running I believe 98 in his old system and had auto signature set up with jpg’s in the signature. These files where saved to disk and now loaded in his new computer which is running XP. We dont have a problem with the signature text but the jpg.s or gif files will not fully load (the dreaded red X)

It views fine stand alone when opened. I am in the belief that something in the Outlook security is playing havic with this stuff as he stated some attachments that he recieves he is unable to load up. I believe everything here on the site is fine. Does anyone know if the extension htm is unique to XP? I dont think I have seen that before in other versions like 98 or 95, it’s html. Your right, we could right click and browse to the image and load it in. But there has to be something we are overlooking here. Any suggestions?

a friend of mine I believe was having the same problem with his computer and he also is running Windows XP. He got on Microsoft Web Site and downloaded some upgrade and all is well now…I’m not sure if his and your problems are exact but they sure do sound similar…

    Hi Guy’s,

    Try this….
Your attachments will start coming in again but make sure you have anti-virus running with the latest definitions.

    Open outlook express
Click tools on the menu bar
    Click options
    Click the security tab
Uncheck “Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus”

    Dave,
Not being able to open attachments means you may not have the software installed that’s required to view or launch the attachment.
Like if you received a .pdf attachment and you don’t have adobe acrobat reader installed it won’t open.

    Hope this helps,
    Shane

Something that you folks that are having difficulty with attachments should do, is check your virus software and see what the settings are for that. It may be that it is setup to scan and or block attachments on your email.

You should be able to specify what is being blocked. Or if it is email, your ISP or whoever you have your account with may be blocking certain types of attachments.

Just some other things that you can check on.

Steve, can you attach a picture and also use the instant UBB code: image and load a picture in a post?
I can attach pictures to posts, but unable to use the instant UBB code: image……all I get is the red X where the picture should be.

    Bob,

I’m not sure if this will fix the Outlook attachment problem you are having or not. Give it a try and let us know. If you are uncomfortable messing with the registry, just make sure to back it up prior to making any changes.

This is so funny to me I am on the website reading up on some fishing reports and various other information and we got some computer talk. I have had a lot of problems with my outlook express and attachment opening lately and Shane your advice fixed my problem. Thank the lord that I can handle a fishing rod better than a computer, otherwise I would never catch fish.

    Thanks again
