If the eelpout bite like they have been this is going to be a great year for poutn’. If anyone is heading up this year for the event and wants any info on catching these beautiful fish start a thread in the Leech Lake forum and I will be happy to help you. With Leech being my “home” body of water I do run into these creatures while walleye fishing quite often, escecially in walker bay. You would not believe some of the things that the locals use to catch these creatures

We call em Lawyers up north. More Scientific name is fresh water Burbot or Ling Cod. They catch em fairly often through the ice in Lake Superior fishing for Whitefish. Don’t know anyone who eats em around here but some of the Finish people do up North.
